Girl with rapid aging disease passed away, leaving unfulfilled dream of becoming a teacher

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí22/12/2024

(Dan Tri) - South African girl Beandri Booysen has a rare disease that causes her to age rapidly. Every year Beandri lives, her body ages 8 years faster than a normal person.

Beandri Booysen died at the age of 19 in early December. Despite struggling with illness all her life, Beandri went to school like other normal children. She also hoped to pursue further education to become a teacher. However, Beandri did not have time to realize her dream.

Beandri was born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa. Doctors once said that Beandri would hardly live past the age of 14, but she always stayed optimistic, did not give up hope and tried to live as normal a life as possible. Beandri also became a social media star with posts showing her positive and optimistic attitude towards life.

In her sharing, one of the things she wishes for most is to stand on the podium to impart knowledge. Besides studying hard, Beandri also reads some books on teaching psychology, learning more about some necessary skills for a modern teacher.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. Two months before her death, Beandri weighed just 12kg. She had undergone heart surgery and recovered well. Beandri had hoped to celebrate Christmas with her family, but her health took a sudden turn for the worse.

Beandri has Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome. The condition causes her to age at an abnormally rapid rate from a young age. About 1 in 4 million newborns have Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome. There is no cure. Beandri is one of about 200 people in the world with the condition.

Beandri's parents, Pieter (57) and Bea (53), have three sons and a daughter. Beandri was diagnosed with Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome when he was just seven months old.

Sharing about Beandri's passing, her mother said: "Our family is deeply saddened to announce Beandri's passing. During her years on earth, Beandri always enjoyed life and lived with good hopes for the future.

Beandri is not only a cheerful person but also an iconic figure, helping the community to understand Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome. In every day of his life, Beandri never gave up to fate."

Sharing in an interview earlier this year, Beandri confided: "I have lived with illness since birth, I have learned to face all challenges, accept and face everything that happens in my life.

I am lucky to have a family who is always there to give me strength, constantly cheer me on and help me live like a normal person. That is what makes me stronger."
