Director Nguyen Hung Phuc encountered difficulties while working at New York Fashion Week.

Recently, Nguyen Hung Phuc attended New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2025 as a program director, directing the catwalk for the show of 5 Indonesian designers.

The director said this was his fifth time at New York Fashion Week, but his first time directly taking on such an important position, so he felt a lot of pressure and anxiety.

During the ongoing Fashion Week, Nguyen Hung Phuc is responsible for sound and lighting arrangements, and coordinating guest seating. He also works directly with model management companies to guide models and plan catwalks. In addition, the director also works with international photographers and cameramen to select images for designers.

Sharing about the memorable things during his work, Nguyen Hung Phuc said he followed the standards of New York Fashion Week. However, instead of going one way in a U-shape as usual, he cut the stage into two paths.

"The new catwalk line helps models stay on the runway longer, allowing the audience to see each design more clearly and carefully, and giving the remaining models more time to change clothes in time for the show," said Nguyen Hung Phuc.

Besides the advantages at work, Nguyen Hung Phuc said he encountered many difficulties.

"Even though I had some experience, when I went abroad I was almost unknown. Model management companies didn't know who I was, so it was difficult for them to trust me and follow my instructions.

At first, when the two sides had arguments, it was inevitable that they felt uncomfortable. However, I am very grateful to the Indonesian designer for their complete trust and fight for me to have full authority to decide and implement the ideas for the program," the director said.

The language barrier is also one of the things that put pressure on the director. He had to use all his sensitivity to help the models and crew clearly grasp his ideas.

After this business trip, Nguyen Hung Phuc was impressed with the professionalism of international models and the strictness of every detail at New York Fashion Week.

He also enjoys the collections of Indonesian designers because they are highly applicable but still imbued with cultural identity. "I hope to have the opportunity to see similar modern and traditional collections from Vietnam on the New York catwalk," Nguyen Hung Phuc said.
