Lao Cai International Border Gate is not only a geographical trading point, but also a symbol of the increasingly deep cooperation between Lao Cai province (Vietnam) and Yunnan province (China). Going beyond the framework of border trade activities, the business communities of both sides are writing a new chapter of comprehensive cooperation, where "handshakes" are not only for profit-seeking, but are also built on the foundation of strategic vision and common interests.
Handshakes for the common good
The relationship between Lao Cai and Yunnan businesses is increasingly favorable thanks to many connection channels, from diplomatic activities, specialized talks, to the initiative of the business community itself. A multi-sector cooperation ecosystem is gradually taking shape.

The common spirit is not only to exploit existing potential and advantages, but also to jointly create new, sustainable value chains.
Two of the areas that most clearly demonstrate this spirit of cooperation are tourism and agricultural import and export – the strengths of both localities. The participation of businesses is not only to seek immediate profits, but also to invest systematically for a common development future.
The strong recovery of the tourism industry after the pandemic has witnessed impressive cooperation efforts. Instead of operating alone, travel companies from both sides have proactively sought each other to create seamless tourism products that attract tourists in both directions.
Terraced Fields International Tourism Trading Co., Ltd. is a typical example. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuong, Director of the company, shared about the professional cooperation model they are building with partners in Yunnan province: We promote advertising to find customers interested in tourism. The Chinese partner will provide real images to increase attractiveness. Each tour has a Vietnamese and Chinese tour guide, all bilingual.
"In particular, during the operation, the two sides continuously have meetings to improve and enhance service quality, better meeting customer needs" - Ms. Thuong shared.
Ms. Thuong's story shows a very modern cooperative mindset, not just selling a simple tour, but together "weaving" a seamless tapestry of experiences, from marketing, product development, staff arrangement to customer care and continuous improvement.
This harmonious coordination is gradually forming professional tourism chains, turning the entire Lao Cai - Yunnan region into an attractive common destination.
Along with tourism, the import-export sector, especially agricultural products, is also a bright spot in the picture of cooperation. In the past, bringing Vietnamese agricultural products to the Chinese market sometimes encountered "bottlenecks" in mechanisms and procedures. However, recently, with the negotiation efforts of the authorities and the initiative of businesses on both sides, many barriers have been removed.

With the maximum support of the authorities in the border area, Vietnamese agricultural products are being cleared more quickly and conveniently. On the other hand, Yunnan enterprises not only play the role of importers, but also become an important bridge, helping Vietnamese goods penetrate deeper into China's vast domestic market.
"We have an e-commerce platform in China. When Vietnamese agricultural products are exported there, we will be the bridge, connecting buyers and sellers directly. We hope that both sides will increase cooperation and exchange more for mutual benefit."
Thus, Vietnamese agricultural products are no longer "alone" when finding their way to foreign markets, but have "navigators" to guide them. Chinese enterprises, with their understanding of the market and distribution system, are helping Lao Cai agricultural products in particular and Vietnam in general reach consumers effectively.
Prospects for deeper cooperation and integration
To make the flow of cooperation stronger, the guiding and supporting role of organizations and associations is extremely important. Exchanges and meetings between enterprises; trade promotion talks, and investment opportunity surveys are regularly held in both Lao Cai and Yunnan, creating great attraction, leading to many valuable economic cooperations and contracts.

Good news and a strategic step forward is that in the near future, the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) will officially open a branch in Lao Cai. This will be an important coordination and support center, helping Vietnamese businesses, especially small and medium enterprises, connect more effectively with the Chinese market.
"This is a very good opportunity to connect Vietnamese businesses, find opportunities to grasp, cooperate and trade with businesses in Yunnan and Guangdong provinces (China), and open up activities in the ASEAN region in the coming time."
Mr. Vinh's sharing shows his strategic vision: VCCI branch in Lao Cai not only serves to connect with Yunnan province (China), but is also a gateway for Vietnamese enterprises to reach other major economic centers of China such as Guangdong and further to connect with the entire ASEAN region.
The clearest symbol of this vibrant cooperation is the Vietnam - China International Trade Fair - an annual event held in rotation, which has become a brand, attracting a large number of businesses from both countries to participate.
The 25th fair is expected to take place in mid-November 2025 in Lao Cai, with a scale of 500 to 550 booths. This is not only a place to display and sell products, but also an opportunity for Vietnamese, Chinese and third-country businesses to meet, exchange, seek partners, develop together and deeply integrate into the international economy.

The economic cooperation between Lao Cai and Yunnan enterprises is entering a new period of qualitative development. With the proactiveness and dynamism of the business community and the support and facilitation of the governments of both sides, we have every right to believe in a common prosperous future, where the interests of each side are nurtured by the success of the partner.
