Thuong Kon Tum Hydroelectric Lake is a semi-artificial lake with an area of over 7 square kilometers. In the middle of the lake, the surface is calm and clear like a giant mirror, with large and small islands undulating, interspersed with scattered fish cages, creating a picturesque landscape.
Drifting on a small boat in the middle of the lake, visitors can admire the lush green primeval forests, in the distance the peaceful village of the Xo Dang people hidden in the mist and the waterfall with white foam.

Another strange point compared to the vibrant lake space is the "dead forest" area. According to research, the process of storing water for many years in the lake bed of the hydroelectric project has caused hundreds of forest trees around the shore to be flooded, gradually dry up and turn ivory white.
However, this row of dead trees is loved by many photographers and tourists because it creates a unique, ghostly scene.

In early October, Mr. Doan Van To (commonly known by the nickname Den di mot di mot ), a photography and travel enthusiast, traveled from Ho Chi Minh City to Quang Ngai to explore the Thuong Kon Tum hydroelectric lake.
To get to the hydroelectric lake, Mr. To and his group rode motorbikes along the forests and hills. There were many bad and difficult roads, but the scenery was wild and beautiful. Tourists should go with local guides to avoid getting lost.

Mr. To sat on a small boat, drifting in the middle of the lake, enjoying the amazing natural scenery. One thing that fascinated him was that the water in this hydroelectric lake flows in the opposite direction - because it originates from the Dak Bla River. Unlike most rivers in Vietnam that flow east to the sea, the Dak Bla River flows west.
Since ancient times, the Ba Na, Xo Dang, Jrai, Ro Ngao… ethnic groups living along the Dak Bla River basin have woven many mysterious stories to explain the unusual flow. This is what makes the river a destination filled with many interesting things, attracting tourists from near and far.

As the boat approached the “dead forest”, Mr. To and the group of guests cheered excitedly. Everyone opened their phones to take pictures of the mysterious, ghostly scene.
"The boat moved slowly, gliding past rows of dry trees. Some tree trunks, though dead, were still standing firmly and upright in the water, while others were leaning over time. In the middle of the vast, green lake, this area became the highlight of the journey," To shared.

According to Mr. To, during the dry season (usually at the beginning of the year), the "dead forest" area will be more visible and become more ghostly. Photo: To Den
On this trip, Mr. To felt a bit regretful that he did not have enough time to stay and camp by the lake, admiring the changes in vegetation and the lake's water surface at different times of the day.
On this trip, in addition to visiting the lake area, he also checked in at a few "unknown" waterfalls, explored Monkey waterfall, and Kon Tu Ma village.

Currently, the Thuong Kon Tum hydroelectric reservoir area is increasingly developing many attractive experiential activities for tourists.
In addition to sitting on a boat or canoe around the lake, visitors can paddle SUP into the nooks and crannies, enjoying the wild and peaceful natural space. Besides, there is the experience of fishing on the lake, trekking in the primeval forest by the lake, camping to watch the sunset...
In the midst of the vast mountains and forests in Mang Den commune, Vi Ro Ngheo tourist village appears as a "healing paradise" with brilliant flowers, rustic homestays and unique Xo Dang culture.
