The 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics honors scientists who research quantum mechanics

DNVN - On October 7, at 11:45 a.m. (local time), in Stockholm, Sweden, the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to three American scientists John Clarke, Michel H. Devoret and John M. Martinis for "the discovery of macroscopic quantum mechanical tunneling effects and energy quantization in electric circuits".

John Clarke (83 years old), currently a professor at the University of California Berkeley, USA. Michel H. Devoret (72 years old), currently a professor at Yale University and the University of California Santa Barbara, USA. John M. Martinis (67 years old), currently a professor at the University of California Santa Barbara, USA.

The laureates performed experiments with an electrical circuit in which they demonstrated both the quantum mechanical tunneling effect and quantum energy levels in a system large enough to hold in the hand.

"This year's Nobel Prize in Physics provides an opportunity to develop the next generation of quantum technologies, including quantum cryptography, quantum computers and quantum sensors," said the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, which awards the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics.
