These “premium nannies” will take care of the children’s physical and mental health and daily needs. They also tutor and help them with their studies.

Currently, the Chinese wealthy have a great demand for highly educated nannies. This has been recognized and met by employment agencies.

A PhD student majoring in psychology said she has experience interviewing hundreds of candidates who contacted the agency to become "premium nannies".

These candidates all graduated from prestigious universities in China, and even studied abroad. They have master's and doctoral degrees, are fluent in many foreign languages, play sports , and have knowledge of child psychology.

Unlike regular tutors or babysitters, “premium nannies” will be deeply involved in the child's daily life, to grasp the child's emotions and needs.

Their duties are very diverse, requiring them to be able to interact with young children, because they are basically like... the child's second parent. When the child is sick, they may be asked to take the child to the doctor. They also work as tutors, tutoring the child in studying. They also play sports with the child, travel ...

These responsibilities normally fall on the child's biological parents, but because they are too busy, the "premium nanny" will take over. The working hours of the "premium nanny" are also very flexible, based on the agreement with the child's family.

Some are hired on an hourly basis, while others are asked to move in with the family and be there regularly to care for the children.

Can it replace parents?

Song Siyu is a "premium nanny" working for a family living in Chongqing. She works from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm on weekdays. Siyu is responsible for teaching the children to study and play sports, including soccer, fencing, swimming...

According to China Central Television (CCTV), millionaire families with assets of 10 million yuan or more are the group in need of hiring "premium nannies".

While many families in China often rely on grandparents or hire maids to look after their children, wealthy families in the country of a billion people are looking to hire highly educated nannies to support their children's comprehensive development.

A “premium nanny” named Shura said that in this profession, women have an advantage over men because they have more comprehensive childcare skills. Families who hire male nannies often want their children to develop sports skills.

Susu, a "premium nanny" with in-depth knowledge of nutrition, said she was assigned by her employer to create daily menus for the children, for the maid to follow.

Susu was also required to stay with the naughty student during the summer vacation. The boy's parents were strict but had no time to discipline their wayward son.

Susu appeared to teach the boy, play with him. She rode a bike with him, jogged, played basketball... In particular, she spent time talking to understand the boy, won his sympathy, and gradually adjusted him to become more obedient and well-behaved.

Susu noticed that some children were closer to their nannies than to their biological parents. This made her both happy and worried, because she knew she had done her job well, but she also worried about the relationship between the child and their biological parents.

Educational psychologist Pan Lan said: "The "top nannies" can never replace the role of biological parents. Lack of effective parental support is still a big shortcoming in the child's journey to adulthood, which will leave long-term consequences.

For a child to develop fully both physically and mentally, the child needs love and care from his biological parents. Only education and culture in the family can bring meaningful values to parents and children.

Currently, Chinese public opinion has mixed views on the "premium nanny" profession. Many people have an unfavorable view, believing that hiring a "premium nanny" is a new way for the rich to show off.

However, there are also many people who have a more sympathetic perspective. "If I have the means, even if I'm not too busy with work, I'll hire a "premium nanny". They are all highly educated people, not all parents have a good education or have the pedagogical methods to help their children learn," one parent shared his opinion.
