Many students in the class said their houses were flooded and they had to stay with relatives.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thao, Principal of Viet Long Primary School (Da Phuc Commune), said that when there was news of flooding, the school switched to online learning for 3 days. However, many houses were flooded, had power outages, and students had no internet access to study. When the water receded, the school switched to in-person learning but still asked parents to bring their children to school only when the road was safe.

“The whole school has 828 students, but on the day of the peak flooding, only about 500 students went to school. Today, the whole school was absent 100 students because the road to school was still flooded,” said Mr. Thao.

Flooded, Hanoi people have to row boats to get around.

According to the authorities of Trung Gia and Da Phuc communes, in recent days, most schools in the area have been flooded, with prolonged power outages, and students have not been able to study online. To date, 16 schools in these two communes are still flooded.

Mr. Le Huu Manh, Secretary of Trung Gia Commune, said that at one point, the entire commune had up to 18 villages heavily flooded, many areas were isolated and had to mobilize military vehicles and boats to reach the people to support and supply necessities.
