Hezbollah shells Beit Hillel settlement for first time, Israel activates Iron Dome missile defense system

Lebanon's Hezbollah movement admitted on August 4 that it had fired dozens of rockets at the Beit Hillel settlement in northern Israel.

“The Islamic Resistance Movement included the new settlement of Beit Hillel in its shelling plan and for the first time launched dozens of rockets at that target,” Hezbollah said in a statement.

Hezbollah said the attack was in response to Israeli military shelling of settlements in southern Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the Times of Israel reported that the country has activated the Iron Dome missile defense system to deal with the above attack.

Accordingly, a "series" of rockets was launched from Lebanon and the Iron Dome system conducted many interceptions in the Galilee region.

Hours earlier, the Israeli military confirmed it had struck Hezbollah targets in the three Lebanese areas of Kfarkela, Deir Seryan and Odaisseh.

The assassination of a Hamas political leader in Iran and Israel's announcement that it had killed senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in an airstrike in Lebanon this week have raised fears of retaliatory attacks and wider war in the Middle East.

On August 3, Iran hoped that Hezbollah - a group backed by Tehran - would attack deeper into Israeli territory.

Hezbollah has been fighting Israeli forces almost daily, targeting military positions on the Israel-Lebanon border since the Israel-Hamas conflict broke out in October 2023.

However, Israel's killing of senior commander Fuad Shukr in the Lebanese capital Beirut may cause Hezbollah to change its calculations.
