Extending the vitality of heritage from the community

Not as flashy as big stages or professional performances, ĐCTT still quietly spreads in the cultural life of the people through community clubs. From the peaceful countryside to the bustling cities, this traditional art form is still maintained and developed thanks to the ordinary people - both artists, audiences and most of all, the keepers of the passion.

In many localities in the province, the model of ĐCTT Clubs has developed strongly. Elderly artisans have become the ones to pass on their skills, contributing to preserving the performance techniques and unique styles of ancient melodies.

The club's living space can be the hamlet's cultural house or the members' home yard... There, ĐCTT is not only a performing art but also a bond that connects the community, an opportunity for people to share their feelings and preserve the affectionate lifestyle of the Southern region. Each melody and song that resounds contains a generous, open-minded, rustic, and simple spirit - the typical features that have shaped the character of the Southern people for generations.

It is thanks to the natural and close transmission from predecessor to successor through the activities that ĐCTT still retains its original beauty and continues to spread in modern life. Without the need for a massive "preservation campaign", it is the love and pride of the community's national culture that has helped this art form to survive for many years.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Trieu, Director of the Center for Culture, Sports and Communications of Song Doc Commune, said: “In recent times, the commune has established many clubs for various types of cultural and artistic activities, including ĐCTT. This is a type of activity that attracts a large number of people to love and participate. Thereby, promoting the development of mass culture and arts, contributing to improving the spiritual life of the people.”

Currently, the province has more than 300 DCTT clubs. In addition to regular activities, many clubs also actively participate in festivals and competitions at the provincial, regional and national levels. This is an opportunity for members to exchange, learn, improve their skills and continue to spread the love of DCTT to the community.

Connecting tradition with modernity

The ĐCTT Clubs are not only places to preserve ancient melodies but also a spiritual support, a place to nurture the love of traditional culture and art for today's and future generations. In order for those songs and instruments to not be forgotten in the modern life, each club, each artist and each art lover needs to join hands to preserve and fuel this precious heritage.

The DCTT Club is a place to nurture people's spiritual life.

Mr. To Minh Canh, Vice Chairman of Huong Bien Traditional Music Club, shared: “The club was established in 2022. This place has become a "common home" for members to sit together and sing to satisfy their passion, while spreading this traditional art form to the younger generation.”

“I like ĐCTT so I joined the club. Here, I was taught a lot about singing by the seniors. I really like the regular meetings, being able to listen, sing, and chat with everyone after stressful working hours,” said Ms. Nguyen Thuy Trang, a member of the ĐCTT Huong Bien Club.

Nowadays, in the context of an ever-changing society, the persistence of elder artisans in teaching the younger generation not only has the meaning of preservation but also acts as a fuel for ĐCTT. From there, it helps today's generation to appreciate the identity, and have more motivation to create and renew ĐCTT art on the traditional foundation.

The sounds of instruments resounding from small yards or cultural houses are not just music, but memories, spirit, and an indispensable part of the soul of Southern people.
