Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy signed a document to the Prime Minister on rewarding individuals who made special contributions to the success of the Vietnam U.23 team at the 2025 Southeast Asian U.23 tournament.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism proposed that the Prime Minister award certificates of merit to head coach Kim Sang-sik and four assistant coaches, including Yoon Dong-hun, Lee Jung-soo, Lee Woon-jae (all Korean nationals) and Cedric Serge Christian Roger (French national).

These are the members who directly coached, directed and supported the team throughout the competition, contributing significantly to helping U.23 Vietnam win the Gold Medal at the regional tournament held in Indonesia. This achievement not only affirms the mettle of the young generation of players but also shows the clear professional mark of the coaching staff.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's report stated that the individuals nominated for awards all fully met the required standards and documents. The Prime Minister's award of the certificate of merit is a recognition of the efforts, dedication and important contributions of the foreign coaching team in the journey to improve Vietnamese youth football.

Previously, right after returning from Indonesia, the U.23 Vietnam team was also awarded a collective certificate of merit by the Prime Minister, along with rewards from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for individuals with outstanding achievements in this historic victory.

In just a short time, coach Kim Sang-sik has achieved many impressive results with the Vietnamese national team as well as U.23 Vietnam.
This is a recognition of the outstanding contributions of the Korean coach - who has brought new vitality to Vietnamese youth football and helped the team achieve success in the regional arena.
Under the leadership of coach Kim Sang-sik, Vietnamese football has achieved a series of memorable achievements. He helped the Vietnamese team win the AFF Cup 2024, with U.23 Vietnam won the U.23 Southeast Asian Championship 2025 and led the team to qualify for the U.23 Asia 2026.
These results affirm the capacity, influence and modern coaching philosophy of coach Kim Sang-sik, who is considered a key factor in the new phase of Vietnam football development plan.

Coach Kim is currently preparing with the team for the match against Nepal in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
Previously, the Vietnam U.23 team was awarded a certificate of merit by the Prime Minister immediately after winning the 2025 Southeast Asian U.23 Championship in Indonesia. Currently, coach Kim Sang-sik is preparing with the Vietnamese team for the match against Nepal in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. Immediately after completing his duties with the national team, he will return to work with the U.23 Vietnam team to prepare for the 2026 AFC U-23 Championship finals in Saudi Arabia.
