Most likely, coach Van Sy Son, former captain of Quang Nam Club, will return to lead his hometown team SLNA for the remainder of the V-League 2025-2026.

According to Thanh Nien Newspaper, Coach Van Sy Son has reached an agreement with SLNA. If nothing changes, this strategist will officially have his debut match on October 18, when SLNA faces Hanoi Police Club.

Previously, after the 2-3 loss to Ho Chi Minh City Police Club in round 5 of the V-League, coach Phan Nhu Thuat resigned. Coach Nguyen Huy Hoang took over temporarily, leading SLNA to a 1-1 draw with HAGL at Pleiku Stadium, in round 6 of the V-League.

Who is coach Van Sy Son?

Coach Van Sy Son is 53 years old this year, from Nghe An . He is a descendant of former famous player Van Sy Chi and is a brother of former stars of SLNA in particular and Vietnamese football in general such as Van Sy Ngoc, Van Sy Hung, Van Sy Thuy, Van Sy Linh.

As a player, Mr. Van Sy Son devoted almost his entire career to SLNA. He held the captain's armband of this club from 2004 before moving to play for Hanoi T&T in 2007. He won 2 V-League championships, 1 National Cup and 3 National Super Cups.

Moving to coaching, he worked as assistant coach at Hanoi Club from 2008 to 2020. In August 2022, Coach Van Sy Son was appointed to lead Quang Nam Club. He helped this team win the right to be promoted to V-League in the 2023-2024 season.

With his extensive experience, Coach Van Sy Son is expected to help SLNA overcome this difficult period. Currently, the Nghe An team has only 5 points and is ranked 10th on the V-League rankings this season.
