Architectural legend and love of Hanoi
Designed by the architectural legend Renzo Piano, it is expected to be an iconic building of Vietnam, on the list of the most famous theaters in the world . Few people know that, having made his name with many architectural works around the world, the legendary Renzo Piano has a special love for the Hanoi Opera House.
With its pearl effect, the Hanoi Opera House reflects the diverse shades of the sky, stunningly beautiful in the sunset.
Unable to attend the groundbreaking ceremony in Hanoi on October 5, the legend sent a special message and feelings for the project that he devoted so much of his heart to: “Although I cannot be with you today, my heart is still here. I send all my best wishes and complete joy for today. I love this project, and I believe that this is the project I love the most. Because this project is associated with music , and music is my passion. And the theater is an island, a place that always carries magic. In the midst of the waves, this musical island will be more beautiful and full of miracles. The most wonderful thing for me is to create a project where everyone can come together, listen to music, enjoy and share happiness.”
The legendary Renzo Piano has strong feelings for the cultural values of humanity, so his works always honor the cultural core of the land where they reside.
At the age of over 80, Renzo Piano has a special love for the culture and historical sediments of Hanoi, a thousand-year-old civilization. He wants to put all his heart, energy and the entire quintessence of his professional life into the work that he considers his most beloved work.
Renzo Piano has received many prestigious awards during his 60-year career, including the Pritzker Prize, considered the Nobel Prize of architecture.
Having spent 40 years researching thin-shell structural technology - an extremely complex and sophisticated technology, the architectural legend wishes to apply this cutting-edge technology for the first time to the dome of the Hanoi Opera House. With a shape reminiscent of pearls rising from the surface of West Lake, the dome of the theater appears soft and poetic but still has a strong contemporary feel.
In particular, the dome uses the pearl effect to honor the simple, original and pure beauty of nature. West Lake is associated with moments that have entered the poetry and hearts of Hanoians, and the pearl will reflect that movement of time on the dome. Hanoi Opera House will therefore tell the story of West Lake, with magical moments, sometimes purple, sometimes covered in mist, sometimes reflecting the brilliant orange light of the sun...
With the Hanoi Opera House, the legendary Renzo Piano will revive a civilized Hanoi, not only with cultural values that have stood the test of time, but also with an advanced culture, approaching the quintessential values of the world.
Architectural legend Renzo Piano sends wishes and love to Hanoi Opera House, which will start construction on October 5.
A talent, a great personality
In an interview with architect Renzo Piano in 2018, CNN described him as a "charming" Italian. That charm is exuded by his warmth, approachability and especially, he is not a person who likes to show off or be praised. That is the personality of the legendary Renzo Piano, always working quietly, contributing to humanity, with works that can "change the world". With his tireless contributions, the master architect Renzo Piano is constantly mentioned by the international architectural community and media, as a "star" of modern world architecture.

Born in 1937 in Genoa, Italy, the legendary Renzo Piano is known as one of the most influential architects of the 20th century. From a young age, he and his partner - Richard Rogers excelled in surpassing more than 600 competitors around the world, including many famous architects, to win the right to design the beloved project of former French President Georges Pompidou, a cultural heart in the middle of ancient Paris - the Georges Pompidou Center. Later, he also contributed many lifetime works such as The Shard in London, England; The New York Times headquarters skyscraper; Parco della Musica Auditorium Theater in Italy...
Renzo Piano is not simply a great architect. Generations of contemporary architects respect him for his design philosophies that always honor cultural and historical values and contribute to humanity. One of the images people remember most about him is his passionate presentation: "You are not simply a builder, but also a citizen, so you need to create shelter for people, for the human community" or "One of the great beauties of architecture is that at the moment of birth, it is like starting a new life".
The British daily, Financial Times, called Renzo Piano a tireless intellect, even though now, at the age of over 80, behind his blue eyes there is still a strong desire for humanity. In all his works, he shows his strong feelings for nature, culture and people. The architectural legend once designed a children's hospital in Uganda, with red clay, wood, sand and gravel..., materials that moved him when he came to this country on the "black continent". The New York Times once called Kansai Airport, one of his works, "the most spectacular building ever built, an impressive engineering work", because the airport has a thin and light structure to cope with the risk of earthquakes.
In his native Italy, he was also called a "hero" when he founded the G124 group of young architects, paid to build works to restore the country's suburbs. Or another time, with great emotion after the collapse of the Morandi Bridge, he gave his hometown the design of a new bridge across the Polcevera River and spent a whole year directly supervising the construction.
With his contributions, the legendary Renzo Piano was the first Italian to be included in the Top 100 most influential people in the world, according to TIME magazine in 2006. Not only that, he also received many prestigious awards during his 60-year career, including the Pritzker Prize, considered the Nobel Prize of architecture. Architect Renzo Piano has truly become a monument that the world's architectural community must admire and respect.
