
OWHC (The Organization of World Heritage Cities) currently has 300 members who are cities with cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO as world heritage. Established in 1993, OWHC is headquartered in Quebec City, Canada with the goal of supporting cities to improve the quality of heritage management and conservation through the exchange and sharing of knowledge and relevant information, towards the common development of world heritage cities.
Mr. Pham Phu Ngoc - Director of Hoi An Cultural Heritage Management and Conservation Center said that joining OWHC will bring many opportunities for Hoi An to connect, develop cooperative relationships, exchange, share expertise and experience with heritage cities; access to regularly updated programs and projects in the field of cultural heritage management and conservation.
In July this year, the center represented Hoi An City to attend the OWHC Asia- Pacific expert workshop with the theme “Connecting to the Quebec Route”, discussing “Traffic Management in the Buffer Zone of the World Heritage Site” and “Raising Awareness and Disseminating Heritage Information to the Community”.
At this workshop, the center presented on the management and conservation of Hoi An cultural heritage in the core and buffer zones, especially the Regulations on the protection of the World Cultural Heritage of Hoi An ancient town; some green and sustainable development solutions of the city government in the orientation of building Hoi An - an ecological - cultural - tourist city,...
