With the goal of "The right to sight for all by 2030", the World Health Organization and the International Blindness Prevention Organization have decided to choose the 5th day of the 2nd week of October every year as World Sight Day (this year is October 9, 2025). World Sight Day was born with the goal of calling on the whole society to recognize the importance of vision, the meaning of bright eyes and to participate together in community eye care activities. This is also a major advocacy event for the prevention of blindness and visual impairment and to convey messages calling on everyone to join hands in efforts towards the goal of reducing and eliminating avoidable blindness worldwide. World Sight Day is an opportunity for the global eye care community to join hands to raise awareness of preventable blindness and visual impairment, towards the goal of "Good vision for all". World Sight Day is also an opportunity to break down misconceptions about vision and work towards a world where all children are free from social stigma associated with vision loss.

Currently, according to the World Health Organization, there are about 45 million blind people in the world. In Vietnam, there are about 350,000 people who are blind in both eyes and 70% of them have cataracts; especially refractive errors are becoming more and more common among school-age children. Every day, many people work and are in constant contact with electronic devices, overloading their eyes, leading to dry eyes, eye fatigue, blurred vision, eye pain and refractive errors, requiring glasses.
In Vietnam today, many people, especially in rural and mountainous areas, are still subjective with the symptoms of eye diseases, thinking that decreased vision is just a sign of old age, so they do not go to the doctor for examination and treatment. Many people with cataracts, glaucoma and other retinal diseases often only go to the doctor at a late stage, when their vision is severely impaired or they have completely lost their vision, so treatment is difficult, expensive and they face a high risk of complications.
Medical experts recommend that to ensure bright, healthy eyes, it is necessary to have a reasonable diet and lifestyle, providing foods rich in vitamins, especially vitamin A. When working a lot with computers, you should use anti-blue light glasses to prevent the impact of electronic light on the eyes. Avoid rubbing your eyes to avoid scratching the cornea. You need to rest properly and relax your eyes after each working hour. Regular eye examinations every 3-6 months help detect eye diseases early for timely treatment.
