Tet "Ma Grờ" is the biggest festival of the year for the Khmu people, usually held around November and December of the lunar calendar. The ceremony takes place with solemn rituals such as praying for luck, blessings, inviting ancestors to celebrate Tet and performing soul and spirit praying rituals for all family members. Following the ceremony is the jubilant festival. Everyone gathers together, drinks wine, beats drums, plays gongs and joins in traditional folk dances. When invited to drink wine, guests will drink and express their thanks to the host and wish their children and grandchildren good health and good luck in the new year. At this time, the people sitting around also pray in unison. In response, the host thanks and raises the wine bottle with everyone, enjoying the joyful and cozy atmosphere.

Tet Ma Gro is an occasion for descendants to offer offerings to their ancestors, inviting them to celebrate Tet with their descendants; praying for the health of all family members; sending off the old year along with all the bad luck, sickness, and disease, hoping to welcome a new year with lots of luck, good health, prosperous business, and family harmony. The ceremony takes place on a family scale, with the participation of relatives and villagers.
