In an interview on state television on the night of August 31 local time, new Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian delivered his first message to the nation since taking office in late July.

New President Pezeshkian has announced plans to attract major investment, according to which Iran needs about 100 billion USD in foreign investment to achieve the target of 8% economic growth per year, double the current 4%.

According to Mr. Pezeshkian, Iran needs up to $250 billion to achieve its goals, but more than half of this is available from domestic resources. Experts estimate that economic growth of 8% will help reduce inflation and unemployment rates currently in double digits in Iran.

In the interview, President Pezeshkian also highlighted the negative impacts of sanctions and asserted that the Iranian government can reduce the inflation rate, which is currently at more than 40% per year, if Tehran resolves problems with neighboring countries and countries around the world .

According to Mr. Pezeshkian, expanding economic cooperation with the outside world is one of the Iranian government 's plans to control inflation. However, the target of reducing inflation to 30% by the end of this year depends partly on domestic and international developments.

The Iranian president confirmed that he will make his first foreign trip to neighboring Iraq and then he will go to New York (USA) to attend the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on September 22-23. During his trip to New York, Mr. Pezeshkian is expected to meet with Iranians living in the US to invite them to return to invest in the country. Of the more than 8 million Iranians abroad, about 1.5 million are living in the US.

In terms of foreign policy, Mr. Pezeshkian's government is committed to resolving existing problems between Iran and other countries, including its neighbors. Iran is currently in the process of negotiating cooperation agreements with about 40 countries.

Iran's economy has faced many difficulties since 2018, when the US under President Donald Trump withdrew from the nuclear deal and imposed more sanctions against Tehran.

During his recent presidential campaign, Mr. Pezeshkian pledged to try to restore the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.
