From 2020 to the end of June 2025, the Department of General Surgery has performed more than 10,900 surgeries. Dr. Nguyen Son, Head of the General Surgery Department, Thong Nhat Dong Nai General Hospital, said: “In recent years, the department has implemented the technique of laparoscopic gastrectomy and colon resection with minimal invasion, helping patients to have less pain and recover quickly. These are advanced techniques that require very complex skills. However, the department always tries to perfect these techniques to help patients receive direct treatment at the hospital, without having to go to higher levels.”

In addition to performing professional work at the hospital, the department also actively transfers technology to lower-level hospitals, supporting the Lao health sector in implementing endoscopic surgery. At the same time, it coordinates with schools to train medical and nursing classes; train medical and pharmacy classes... to serve the treatment, examination and treatment in the future.
