Naval Brigade 170: Promoting glorious heroic tradition

60 years ago, the predecessor units of Brigade 170 (Naval Region 1) fought bravely with the army and people of the North, achieving glorious victories in the first battle on August 2 and 5, 1964. Proud to continue and promote the heroic tradition of the previous generation, the generations of officers and soldiers of the Brigade today always uphold the spirit of enthusiastic emulation, ready to receive and excellently complete all assigned tasks. contributing to firmly protecting the sacred sea and islands of the Fatherland.

The days in mid-July were very sunny and rainy, but overcoming the sun and rain, regardless of all types of weather, the training atmosphere of the officers and soldiers in Brigade 170 was always exciting, enthusiastic, and serious. Both on land and at sea, the strong and decisive training commands of the officers and soldiers responded to the resounding sounds of the equipment and warships, creating a special competitive atmosphere towards the 60th anniversary of the victory in the first battle on August 2 and 5 (1964-2024). At Ha Long Military Port, besides the torpedo boats whose names have been recorded in history such as: T333, T336, T339 standing majestically... is a fleet of modern combat ships undertaking the task of protecting the sacred sea, islands, and continental shelf of the Fatherland.

Captain Tran Trong Hoang, Captain of Ship 311, Squadron 135, Brigade 170, said: As the young generation continuing the tradition of the unit that won the first battle, we are always deeply aware of the significance of that victory. In the ship's command committee, we always educate the troops about the unit's tradition, thereby building and promoting confidence, the will to dare to fight, to fight and to win, to unite and coordinate, to overcome difficulties, to train well, to be ready to fight well, and to be determined to excellently complete all assigned tasks.

The predecessor of Brigade 170 (Naval Region 1) today is Battalion 135 and heroic Squadron 7 - the unit that directly contributed to the victory of the first battle of the Vietnam People's Navy. Promoting the heroic tradition, over the past time, the Brigade has always upheld the spirit of solidarity, initiative, and creativity of generations of fathers and brothers, building a strong, exemplary, and representative unit.

With the characteristic of a unit that often has many independent and dispersed forces, in order to complete all tasks well, the Brigade has synchronously deployed appropriate forms of education; combining political education with military ideology management according to Regulation No. 775 of the General Department of Politics with dissemination and education of law. The close combination of emulation in good training with discipline training, building a regular routine has always been identified by the Brigade as a breakthrough spearhead to build a strong and comprehensive unit.

Implementing the training motto of "basic, practical, solid", synchronous, and specialized, the Brigade focuses on training close to the mission situation, close to the target, close to the battlefield, close to the plan and existing weapons and equipment in the establishment; taking the battlefield as the training ground, taking the goal of protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands and building a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and modern Brigade as the training goal. The results of annual military and professional training always meet 100% of the requirements, of which 80.6% to 85.4% are good and excellent.

Not only well-trained and ready for combat, Brigade 170 also carried out well the movements "Building a good, beautiful, healthy and rich cultural environment in the army", associated with the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life", the program "Vietnam Navy is a fulcrum for fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea"... contributing to building a strong military base.

Young soldiers of the unit always promote self-awareness, actively study to improve their qualifications and expertise to meet mission requirements in the new situation.

Colonel Le Tien Hau, Brigade Commander of Brigade 170, affirmed his determination: The glorious memories of the first victory on August 2 and 5, 1964 are always the pride of the officers and soldiers of Brigade 170. To promote that tradition, the unit has been making efforts to implement emulation contents, constantly improving the overall quality, meeting the requirements of the task of building and protecting the Fatherland in the new situation. The lessons learned are still being applied by the unit in combat readiness training. At the same time, it has promptly advised and proposed to the Party Committee, Command of Region 1 and the Navy many correct policies in the struggle to protect national sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction at sea, effectively handling situations, resolutely and persistently preventing foreign encroachments that violate our waters.

With the determination and efforts of generations of officers and soldiers, Brigade 170 has been continuously built and strengthened in all aspects, excellently completing assigned tasks, contributing to continuing the heroic history of the Vietnam People's Navy in the cause of protecting and building the Fatherland. Brigade 170 was honored to be awarded by the Party and State with 1 First Class Military Exploit Medal; 1 Third Class Feat of Arms Medal, 3 First, Second and Third Class Fatherland Protection Medals; 1 Friendship Medal of the State of Cambodia; 5 Flags of Merit from the Minister of National Defense and 6 Flags of Merit from the Navy Command; 7 collectives were awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces and thousands of collectives and individuals were awarded other forms; 10 comrades who used to work at the Brigade were promoted to generals of the Vietnam People's Army.
