According to The Sun, Mbeumo and Baleba became close during the African World Cup qualifying campaign. The 26-year-old MU winger is considered the “big brother”, often encouraging, sharing experiences and inspiring the 21-year-old junior.
Mbeumo reportedly told Baleba about life at Old Trafford, the top-flight atmosphere and his desire to bring MU back to its golden age. After joining the "Red Devils" for a fee of 71 million pounds in the summer, Mbeumo quickly asserted his influence with his first goal for the club in a 3-2 win over Burnley, thereby building trust in the hearts of fans.

Meanwhile, Baleba is a mainstay of Brighton and is considered one of the most potential defensive midfielders in the Premier League. Brighton does not want to let him go, even asking for more than 100 million pounds , to prevent invitations from big clubs like MU.
Manager Ruben Amorim is said to be a big admirer of Baleba's talent, seeing him as the perfect piece to fit into a 3-4-2-1 system alongside captain Bruno Fernandes. Although a deal is unlikely to happen in January, Manchester United still hope that the close relationship between Mbeumo and Baleba can play a decisive role in bringing the Cameroon midfielder to Old Trafford next summer. If Baleba himself says he wants to leave, United will have more leverage at the negotiating table.
