Reopening Guangzhou flight route

On October 2, information from Cam Ranh International Airport said that China Southern Airlines (China) has just reopened the Guangzhou - Cam Ranh route with a frequency of 3 flights/week, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The first flight on September 29 carried 130 Chinese passengers to Khanh Hoa for tourism .

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Chinese tourists accounted for the majority of international visitors to Khanh Hoa , as in 2019, the locality welcomed more than 2.5 million visitors from this country. However, since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, the tourist market from the world's most populous country to Vietnam in general and Khanh Hoa in particular has almost "frozen".

After the Covid-19 epidemic was controlled, the Government allowed the tourism industry to reopen to international visitors. Many Vietnamese airlines such as Vietjet Air and Bamboo Airways operated charter flights to bring Chinese tourists to Khanh Hoa, but recently the number of flights has decreased.

“It is expected that in the coming time, charter flights bringing Chinese tourists to Khanh Hoa will gradually increase from November and Chinese commercial airlines are planning to resume operations in the fourth quarter. In addition, Korean airlines will gradually increase flights to Nha Trang because the travel demand of Korean tourists is currently increasing...”, the leader of Cam Ranh International Terminal Joint Stock Company informed.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Thanh, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism, said that China Southern Airlines is the first airline to reopen commercial flights from China to Khanh Hoa since the Covid-19 epidemic was controlled, which is a good sign for the local tourism industry. "The reopening of the Guangzhou - Cam Ranh commercial flight route will contribute to creating conditions for travel agencies to exploit tours bringing Chinese tourists to Khanh Hoa as well as bringing people from Khanh Hoa and neighboring provinces to travel to China," Ms. Thanh said.

Khanh Hoa province aims to welcome 4.5 million international tourists and 4.3 million domestic tourists by 2025. By 2030, Khanh Hoa tourism industry aims to welcome 7 million international tourists and 6.8 million domestic tourists.

In the first 9 months of 2023 alone, Khanh Hoa province welcomed 5.7 million overnight guests, of which international visitors reached more than 1.45 million, and domestic visitors reached about 4.25 million. Tourism revenue was more than 27,502 billion VND.

Khanh Hoa wants to diversify its international tourist market.

The Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism said that the province is aiming to diversify the international tourist market, this is to ensure a stable number of visitors to the locality, from which it can develop sustainably, no longer having "monopolized" visitors like before.

"Recently, the number of Korean tourists to Khanh Hoa has been increasing, this is also a very potential market. In the near future, we will continue to expand tourism promotion in markets such as: Korea, Australia, India, Kazakhstan, Malaysia... to diversify the flow of tourists to the locality more and more", Ms. Thanh said.
