Brilliant achievements

In the context of the Le - Mac war in the early 16th century, the great Nguyen family supported the Le Trung Hung dynasty in Thanh Hoa with many outstanding military achievements. That meritorious service started from his grandfather, Thai Pho Trung Quoc Cong Nguyen Hoang Du, his father, Thai Tu Hung Quoc Cong, Head of Internal Affairs, Chieu Huan Tinh Cong Nguyen Kim (later posthumously awarded the title Trieu To Tinh Hoang De), to his two sons with many military achievements, Lang Quan Cong Nguyen Uong, who was very talented but died early, and his younger brother, Doan Quan Cong Nguyen Hoang. Due to the internal conflicts of the political forces of the Le - Nguyen - Trinh at that time, Doan Quan Cong Nguyen Hoang followed the plan of his adoptive uncle, Thai Pho Nguyen U Di, to go to the South to guard Thuan Hoa, a dangerous and difficult border area of O Chau, from the year of Mau Ngo (1558).

From the dead zone, with many difficulties in natural geography as well as social population of a new land in the South full of harshness and strangeness, Doan Quan Cong and his entourage gradually turned into a way of life, made many glorious achievements, step by step also concurrently managed Thuan - Quang (Canh Ngo, 1570), was conferred the title of Doan Quoc Cong, honored as Lord Tien, established the foundation of the prosperous Nam Ha - Dang Trong in the context of the contemporary region. After his death (Canh Dan day, June of Quy Suu year, 1613), at the age of 89, he was given the posthumous title Thai To Gia Du Emperor, at the beginning of Gia Long period, he was posthumously honored as Trieu Co Thuy Thong Kham Minh Cung Y Can Nghia Dat Ly Hien Ung Chieu Huu Dieu Linh Gia Du Emperor, temple name is Thai To, mausoleum is called Truong Co.

About the birth of Lord Tien

Due to various reasons, there has been a discrepancy in determining the date of birth of Lord Nguyen Hoang. This needs to be clarified soon, especially this year, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of his birth (At Dau, 1525 - At Ty, 2025).

Dai Nam Thuc Luc Tien Bien recorded “He was born on the 8th month of the autumn of Binh Dan (the 4th year of the Le Dynasty - the 4th year of the Minh Dynasty) in the 8th month of the autumn of At Dau” (He was born on the 8th month of the autumn of At Dau (the 4th year of the Le Dynasty - the 4th year of the Minh Dynasty) in the 8th month of the autumn of Binh Dan)” (volume 1, page 1). It is noteworthy that after the word “Binh Dan 丙寅” there is no word “nhat 日” (day) or “thoi 時” (hour), but the translation of the Institute of History clearly states “Born on the 8th month of the autumn of At Dau” [1525]…” ( Education Publishing House, 2002, p. 25).

Comparing the calendar, according to the perpetual calendar, the 8th month of the year At Dau (1525) did not have a Binh Dan day at all, and the only day in the autumn of that year (only once every 60 days) was the 10th day of the 9th lunar month (September 26, 1525). Therefore, it can be seen that the understanding of "Binh Dan day" as translated by the Institute of History is not correct.

The Nguyen Dynasty paid special attention to the creation of royal genealogies. During the Gia Long period, it was called Thien Nam The He, during the Minh Mang period, it was called Hoang Trieu Ngoc Pha, and it was not until the year Giap Than (1824) that it was called Hoang Trieu Ngoc Diep. In November/Tan Suu (1841), the Ngoc Diep was completed, but there were still errors, so from General Truong Dang Que down, they had to pay the penalty. It was not until August/Dinh Mui (1847) that the Ngoc Diep was completed. Here, the Thai To Ngoc Diep page gives details: “(Thai To) was born in the year At Dau, the fourth year of Thong Nguyen of the Le dynasty, the autumn of the eighth month (At Dau), the 12th day, near the hour of Binh Dan”.

Therefore, “Binh Dan time gap” means not yet the full hour, that is, close to Binh Dan hour (3 - 5 am), so it should be understood as “close to Binh Dan hour”, not “Binh Dan day”. According to the calendar, August 12, At Dau year is Ky Hoi day, which is August 30, 1525.

A clarification

From here, based on the official documents of the Royal Court of the Thieu Tri Dynasty, which were recorded carefully and in full detail, it can be concluded that the date of birth (Holy Birthday) of Emperor Thai To Gia Du, whose real name was Nguyen Hoang, was August 12, At Dau year (August 30, 1525), near Binh Dan hour (3-5 am). Any discrepancies or inconsistencies in recording or translation are difficult to convince and need to be promptly clarified in a specific and accurate manner.

Therefore, it is thought that the Council of Nguyen Phuc clan of Vietnam needs to carefully research once again the available sources of documents to officially record the Holy Day of Lord Nguyen Hoang, as a basis for consulting and drafting related documents later. That ensures the affirmation of the seriousness and accuracy of the historical science of the nation, the solemnity in the sacred religious life of the clan, of Hue culture, so that the ancestors can be comforted and the descendants can be more assured and proud.
