On October 1, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting issued a warning that from today until October 2, the flood in the lower reaches of the Red River at Hanoi station will continue to rise and fluctuate at alert level 1.
Water level rose rapidly in the context of heavy rain, many hydroelectric plants were forced to release strong floodwaters.
According to Tuoi Tre Online , at the bridges crossing Hanoi, the Red River and Duong River are flowing rapidly. Many alluvial plains and residential areas along the river are submerged under the murky water.
The water level rose hour by hour, leaving many people unable to react. Having just recovered tens of thousands of peach trees after Typhoon Yagi destroyed them all last year, hundreds of households in Hong Ha ward were left in a state of panic as the riverbanks were completely submerged.
"If the water doesn't recede by tonight, we'll lose everything. If the peach tree is soaked in water for 1-2 days, it can still be saved, but if it's longer, it will be ruined," said Ms. Dung (in Phu Thuong).
Meanwhile, on Long Bien bridge, the water level is described by locals as rising by the hour.
Residential area near the foot of the bridge - near Long Bien market this morning many houses were flooded several meters deep.
The water rose so quickly that many people had no time to react or move their belongings.
Flood warning lines are gradually being submerged by the water. Traffic in Hanoi is a bit easier this morning because students are off school.

Similarly, rising floodwaters also approached the peach blossom fields of Nhat Tan and kumquat trees of Tu Lien on the morning of October 1.
Last year, tens of thousands of peach trees in this area were also lost after Typhoon Yagi. People are worried that the situation will repeat itself after this flood.
Most of the peach trees were replanted nearly a year ago. Locals said that if the water recedes quickly in the next 1-2 days, they still have hope of saving the trees.
Many people tried to wade through deep water to check their belongings and farming tools before moving to another place.
