This special pizza was developed by a famous pizza brand in collaboration with a long-standing snake soup restaurant in Hong Kong.
The restaurant opened in 1895 in Guangdong, then moved to Central in Hong Kong, and is currently run by Ms. Gigi Ng Chui-po (fourth generation in the family).
Ms. Gigi Ng said the idea was born from the desire to bring a traditional dish that is more than 2,000 years old closer to young people in a more modern form.

“They put a lot of effort into making the pizza base from snake soup. If it’s too thin, it will be soggy, and if it’s too thick, it will be unappealing,” she told the South China Morning Post .
Accordingly, instead of using tomato sauce and cheese like regular pizza, this dish uses condensed snake soup as the base. The toppings include shredded snake meat, shiitake mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms, bamboo shoots, lemon leaves and white chrysanthemum petals, familiar ingredients in Cantonese snake soup.

Traditional snake soup is usually cooked with 2-5 types of snakes such as Chinese cobra, striped rat snake, long-nosed viper, krait... The broth is simmered with chicken bones, pork bones, tangerine peel and sugarcane to create sweetness.
According to traditional medicine, snake is considered a yang food, which has the effect of warming the body in the cold season. That is also the reason why this soup is popular in Hong Kong in the winter.
According to the editors of the South China Morning Post, the advertisement for the dish printed with a picture of a venom-spitting snake shocked many people, but when they opened the box, they found it more like a chicken and mushroom pizza than a "horror" dish.
Some users commented that the snake soup base has a light “grassy” smell, which is typical of snake meat, combined with the rich flavor of sea cucumber and abalone - high-quality ingredients often used in traditional snake soup.
However, some people commented that the pizza could not fully recreate the taste of the original snake soup. “Eating snake pizza is like listening to rock music with the noise canceling on, the taste is significantly reduced compared to the real soup,” one member commented.

“I like new experiments,” said food critic Peter Chang, author of the blog Diary of a Growing Boy. “This pizza isn’t as weird as last year’s durian pizza. The lime leaves and snake meat make it almost like a bowl of snake soup.”
Meanwhile, another customer commented: “The idea is very Cantonese, the soup is a bit thick and sticky but the dried tangerine peel has a very distinctive taste. Unfortunately, my pizza had green onions instead of lemon leaves, so it lacked the citrus aroma.”
According to the pizza company's Instagram page, the snake soup pizza costs 186-209 HKD (about 630,000-700,000 VND).
