Regulations on financial support for relic caretakers

Việt NamViệt Nam10/12/2024

There are currently 328 historical and cultural relics in the province that have been ranked, including 1 special national relic, 73 national relics, and 254 provincial relics. Encouraging, motivating, and raising the sense of responsibility of those who directly look after and protect the relics is very necessary, contributing to ensuring the safety of the relics, preserving valuable relics, antiques, and worship objects, and ensuring the hygiene of the relic grounds...

Regulations on financial support for relic caretakers

Mr. Nguyen Van Tong, who has been taking care of Hung Lo Communal House for 15 years, was very excited to learn about the new support level regulations.

However, in reality, support, encouragement and motivation for those who directly look after and protect relics are still limited. The support level for those who directly look after and protect relics ranked at the national level is 36,000 VND/month/relic, which has been implemented since the re-establishment of the province (in 1997) and is no longer suitable, while for relics ranked at the provincial level, those who directly look after and protect have not received financial support.

It is expected that at the 9th Session of the 19th Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee will submit to the Provincial People's Council for consideration and approval of the Resolution on the level of financial support for those directly looking after and protecting historical and cultural relics ranked by the State in Phu Tho province. Accordingly, the level of support from the provincial budget is balanced in the district-level budget estimate and the annual funding and merit of historical and cultural relics. For relics ranked at the national level, the support is 700,000 VND/relic/month, for relics ranked at the provincial level, it is 500,000 VND/relic/month. This is the source of funding to support those directly looking after historical and cultural relics ranked at the national and provincial levels in the province (except for relics ranked by public service units).

For historical - cultural relics ranked by the State that have no source of income or have source of income (sponsorship, merit,...) but do not guarantee to support the person directly looking after the relic, the State budget will support the person directly looking after it according to the norm. For historical - cultural relics ranked by the State that have source of income (sponsorship, merit,...) guaranteed to support the person directly looking after the relic, the relic will proactively support the person directly looking after the relic, ensuring at least according to the norm of the State.

As the caretaker of Hung Lo Communal House (Viet Tri City) - a National historical-cultural relic for 15 years, Mr. Nguyen Van Tong, who is about to turn 80, is very excited. He shared: "As a descendant of the village, I consider taking care of and protecting the Communal House, preserving the royal decrees, worshiping objects, and cleaning the landscape of the relic site as my joy and pride in contributing to preserving the heritage left by my ancestors. At Hung Lo Communal House, for the past 3 years, Mr. Nguyen Cong Ham has been sharing the work with me. It is known that at this Provincial People's Council meeting, we will consider increasing the level of support for the caretakers of the relic. We are very excited to receive the province's attention to the caretakers and protectors of the relic site."

Financial support for those directly looking after and protecting ranked relics is a source of practical encouragement and motivation, contributing to raising the sense of responsibility of those looking after and protecting relics, and preserving tangible cultural heritage in the province.
