In particular, the complicated developments of the tropical depression near the East Sea and heavy rains caused by storm No. 12 have made hundreds of households living along the banks of this river even more insecure.
According to VNA reporters on the morning of October 23, in Van Hoa village, Trieu Binh commune, many sections of the riverbank have eroded deeply, close to residential areas and traffic roads. Standing in front of her house that has eroded close to the wall, Ms. Tran Thi Kieu, Van Hoa village, expressed her concern that riverbank erosion is becoming more and more complicated. Over the past 2 years, the riverbank has eroded nearly 5m more, close to the wall of her house. If this situation continues, the house could be swept away into the river at any time. I hope the State will soon take measures to support and build solid embankments so that people can settle down and make a living.
Not only Ms. Kieu, many households in Van Hoa village said that their houses were previously dozens of meters away from the river, but after a few years, the water has gradually "eaten" into the foot of the wall. Many houses and solid structures of people along the Vinh Dinh riverbank are at high risk of being damaged and collapsing when they are only 2-3 meters away from the river. Riverbank erosion has also caused the area of production land to gradually disappear, affecting people's livelihoods.
According to local people, the erosion of Vinh Dinh riverbank has been happening for many years, especially after storm No. 10, this situation has become especially serious. After many heavy rains, the river water level rose, flowed rapidly, and many new landslides appeared. A series of banana and bamboo trees - the types of trees that people planted to prevent erosion - were all knocked down, lying in the middle of the river, no longer able to hold the soil.
Mr. Tran Thien Phong, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Trieu Binh Commune, said that the erosion of the Vinh Dinh River bank through Trieu Binh Commune is very serious and has been complicated for many years. Currently, in the commune, about 1.5 km of river bank has been eroded through Van Hoa and Quang Dien villages; of which, Van Hoa village has about 600 m of severe erosion, affecting the lives and production of dozens of households. The locality recommends that all levels and sectors pay attention and promptly allocate funds to build embankments to prevent erosion, ensuring safety for people, especially during the rainy and stormy season.
Vinh Dinh is a canal, started in the 6th year of Minh Mang (1825). This river was dug, dredged and cleared many times, stretching from the reign of King Minh Mang to the reigns of the Nguyen Dynasty. The river passes through Trieu Binh commune and connects to Tam Giang lagoon of Hue city with a length of about 26 km.

In addition to Trieu Binh commune, the landslide situation of Vinh Dinh river through Trieu Phong commune, Vinh Dinh is also complicated, threatening the lives of thousands of people. Currently, the local government is urgently reviewing and proposing solutions to overcome and temporarily reinforce; warning of dangers, and making plans to evacuate people in vulnerable areas when heavy rains occur. However, in the long term, it is necessary to have the attention and timely intervention of the authorities, investing in building solid embankments to ensure people's lives.
