Singapore's Ministry of Defense said on October 15 that the country's air force had dispatched two F-15SG fighter jets to escort Air India flight AXB684 out of a residential area after the airline received an email about a bomb on the passenger plane.

Singapore's Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said the Air India plane was escorted and landed safely at Changi Airport at around 10pm (local time). Mr Ng Eng Hen added that air defence systems and explosive disposal teams were also deployed.

After landing, airport police were present to check. Police said that the security check did not find any dangerous devices on the plane, adding that the investigation is still ongoing. “Police take security threats very seriously and will not hesitate to take action against those who deliberately cause panic among the public,” Changi Airport police said in a statement.

Air India has not commented on the incident. The airline said another flight en route to Chicago landed in Canada on October 15 as a precaution after a threat was posted online.

Air India and several other airlines have received threats in the past few days. On October 14, an Air India flight from Mumbai to New York was diverted to New Delhi due to a fake bomb threat. IndiGo also reported threats against flights to Jeddah and Muscat.
