Winning big in 5G, Huawei plans to commercialize 5.5G

Người Lao ĐộngNgười Lao Động29/02/2024

Huawei statistics show that more than 300 commercial 5G networks have been deployed around the world by the end of 2023.

Overall, 5G is growing at a rate 7 times faster than 4G in terms of global user growth over the same period. Specifically, after 5 years since its commercialization in 2019, there have been more than 1.5 billion users using 5G networks, while it took 4G 9 years to make this a reality.

Unlocking the potential of new applications

Having successfully tested in cities in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands last year, Huawei continues to work with many leading global carriers and industry partners to find new solutions to meet higher requirements for applicability and new 5.5G scenarios.

Speaking at the recent MWC 2024 Summit, Mr. Li Peng - Senior Vice President and President of Huawei ICT Business & Services Group - gave an optimistic assessment: "5G is on the right track to achieve business success. Currently, 20% of mobile subscribers in the world are using 5G, generating 30% of total mobile traffic and contributing up to 40% of mobile service revenue. In addition, 5.5G will continue to be commercialized in 2024. When 5.5G, AI and Cloud networks come together, operators can explore the potential of new applications."

At the conference, Mr. Li Peng also recommended that carriers around the world should focus on four factors: High-quality networks, multi-dimensional business, emerging services and generative AI to seize these opportunities.

High quality networking remains the foundation of business success

Mobile users are now willing to purchase upgrades to their mobile plans to improve their experience if the network is of high quality. Traffic is expected to increase significantly, allowing operators to maximize value. This has led to more and more operators setting strategic goals in building high quality 5G networks.

Several operators in the Middle East have deployed Massive MIMO networks, delivering optimal experiences and driving successful 5G FWA deployments. To date, 5G FWA has connected nearly 3 million households, becoming a strong revenue driver for operators.

Multi-dimensional business maximizes the value of every bit

More than 20% of global 5G carriers have adopted a speed-tiered pricing model.

A Thai carrier recently launched an add-on called 5G acceleration mode, which allows subscribers to choose different speed levels to best meet the needs of each individual, while helping the carrier increase its ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) by about 23%.

Emerging services enable long-term sustainable growth

New services such as New Calling, Cloud Phones and Glasses-free 3D are increasingly attracting users' attention.

Next-generation calling with virtual avatars is becoming quite popular. Users are also willing to pay more for calling services that offer real-time experiences.

5G is also being applied in many industries. In China, 5G Private networks have been commercially deployed in more than 50,000 enterprises in more than 50 industries. New strengths of 5.5G include deterministic latency, precise positioning and passive IoT, which are expected to create more opportunities for operators in the B2B market.

Generative AI takes the mobile industry into a new era

According to IDC, AI mobile phones will reach 170 million units by 2024, accounting for 15% of all smartphones shipped globally. Next-generation AI phones will have more powerful storage, display, and photography capabilities.

The AI applications generated in these phones will also consume hundreds of billions of gigabytes of data, creating countless new growth opportunities for carriers.

Mr. Li Peng believes that Huawei will further exploit the potential of 5G and 5.5G, and promote new growth and make a spectacular breakthrough.
