Mixed martial arts is a highly competitive applied martial art, distilling the essence of boxing, kickboxing, sambo... which has developed strongly and is popular in the armed forces of member countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
Vietnam Public Security Sports Delegation attends the 22nd International Mixed Martial Arts Tournament in the Russian Federation.
The Vietnam People's Public Security Sports Delegation participated in the tournament at the invitation of the Russian Federation of Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMAF). After 4 days of competition, the Vietnam People's Public Security Sports Delegation excellently won a Gold Medal for athlete Vu Thi Duong (75kg weight class) and a Bronze Medal for athlete Vu Thu Thao (70kg weight class).
This is not the first time that the Vietnam People's Public Security Sports Department has sent a delegation to participate in the International Mixed Martial Arts Tournament in the Russian Federation. Previously, in 2024, the Vietnam People's Public Security Sports Department also participated in the 21st International Mixed Martial Arts Tournament (taking place from October 8 to October 11, 2024 in Moscow, the Russian Federation).
In this participation, CAND Sports also won 1 Gold Medal (by boxer Ngo Thi Huyen My, 75kg category) and 2 Bronze Medals (by Vu Thi Duong and Hoang Thi Huong in 55 and 65kg categories respectively).
Earlier in 2023, the Vietnam People's Public Security Sports Delegation won two Silver Medals and one Bronze Medal at the 20th International Mixed Martial Arts Tournament. Of which, two Silver Medals were awarded to Vu Thi Duong, 65kg category, and Nguyen Thu Thao, 70kg category for women; one Bronze Medal was awarded to Ngo Thi Hoa, 60kg category for women.
*Also on the occasion of attending the 22nd International Mixed Martial Arts Tournament, the Vietnam Public Security Sports Association and IMAF signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the period 2025-2028. Accordingly, the two sides will build a cooperation program in the field of sports between the two sides, in particular, IMAF will support and organize training for officers, soldiers, coaches and athletes of the Vietnam Public Security sent to train and practice in the Russian Federation. In addition, IMAF also sends experts and experienced coaches to Vietnam to train and teach martial arts to officers, soldiers, coaches and athletes of the Vietnam Public Security force.
Vietnam Public Security Sports Association and IMAF signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation for the 2025-2028 period.
* The list of Vietnam's MMA (mixed martial arts) team participating in the 33rd SEA Games includes 4 Lion Championship champions including Pham Van Nam (56 kg), Tran Ngoc Luong (60 kg) and two female boxers Duong Thi Thanh Binh and Nguyen Vu Quynh Hoa in the 60 kg and 54 kg categories respectively. The 33rd SEA Games is the first tournament to feature MMA (mixed martial arts). The Vietnamese sports delegation competes in this sport with 6 athletes.
