Ho Chi Minh City trains national excellent student competition team with many 'firsts'

On October 13, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced a plan to train a team of excellent students to participate in the national excellent student selection exam for the 2025-2026 school year with many new points after the merger.

Accordingly, 480 students in 12 subjects participating in the national excellent student selection exam will begin their training period from October 13 to December 19 (10 weeks), with a duration of 30 to 40 periods/subject/week.

Students from far away will stay in dormitories.

Specifically, students of the participating teams will have 9 weeks of direct training at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (Area 1) and one week of direct training at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (Area 3) according to the timetable of each subject.

The members of the selection team from high schools in region 2 (formerly Binh Duong ), region 3 (formerly Ba Ria-Vung Tau) will stay at the dormitory of the Ho Chi Minh City School of Education Management (Saigon Ward) during their training at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (Cho Quan Ward - region 1).

The members of the selection team from high schools in region 1 and region 2 will stay at the dormitory of Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (Phuoc Thang Ward, region 3) during their training at this school.

The leader of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City informed that the department will be proactive in organizing teaching and mobilizing resources such as teachers, lecturers, experts, and scientists to achieve the highest efficiency in training excellent students.

Accordingly, students will be guided and improve their knowledge and specialized skills in each subject to have the capacity to meet the national excellent student exam. Survey and evaluate the capacity of each student to have specific solutions for each subject. Create motivation, passion for learning, and in-depth research in various fields for the city's excellent student force. Organize the assessment of the learning process (diligence, learning attitude, capacity of the members of the selection team during the training period, ...) to select the best students to join the official team of excellent students of the city to participate in the national excellent student selection exam.

According to the plan of the Department of Education and Training, the official launching ceremony of the team participating in the national excellent student selection exam is expected to be held at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted on December 20.

At the launching ceremony of the national excellent student selection team on October 7, Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, shared that this is the first time Ho Chi Minh City has a team of excellent students participating in all 12 subjects, strong in both quantity and quality. In particular, after merging with Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Binh Duong, Ho Chi Minh City has become a megacity with many favorable development conditions. However, there are also many difficulties, especially in organizing and preparing for the selection team from now until the end of December.

For the first time, 480 students selected for the national excellent student selection team of Ho Chi Minh City will have a period of study and training in region 3.

Regarding the living conditions of the excellent student team in the first year after the merger, the Department's leader said that students from far away cannot travel every day, so the arrangement of accommodation in the dormitory, meals, and rest needs to be prioritized to ensure their health.

According to Mr. Hieu, the teams have a week of concentrated study time in area 3 - Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted - where there is a spacious dormitory, airy space, near the sea. This will be an opportunity for the students to participate in the national selection team, to study, exchange, and rest to recharge their energy before entering the exam.
