On October 7, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony to launch the team participating in the national excellent student selection exam for the 2025-2026 school year.
For the first time, Ho Chi Minh City has a team of excellent students participating in all 12 subjects.
Accordingly, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has selected 480 excellent students, divided into 12 teams of math, physics, chemistry, biology, literature, history, geography, English, French, Chinese and Japanese.
This year, in addition to students from 4 specialized schools (Le Hong Phong, Tran Dai Nghia, Hung Vuong and Le Quy Don High Schools), there are also students from 25 non-specialized high schools such as Marie Curie, Tran Van Giau, Hung Vuong, Binh Tan, Ngo Quyen and Nam Ky Khoi Nghia...
At the launching ceremony of the national excellent student selection team, Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, shared that this is the first time Ho Chi Minh City has a team of excellent students participating in all 12 subjects, strong in both quantity and quality. In particular, after merging with Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Binh Duong , Ho Chi Minh City has become a megacity with many favorable development conditions. However, there are also many difficulties, especially in organizing and preparing for the selection team from now until the end of December.
"However, I believe that with youthful spirit, enthusiasm and determination, we will overcome all challenges.
This year, I am very happy to see many high schools in region 1 have students in the team. Schools in region 2 have concentrated their students at Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted, so they have not had the opportunity to participate, and the same is true for region 3. But from now on, we are a unified team, regardless of region 1, 2 or 3, all are Ho Chi Minh City," said the head of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
It is known that with 12 teams of excellent students in 12 subjects, each team has 40 students, Ho Chi Minh City has proposed to the Ministry of Education and Training to keep the number of students unchanged, including 20 students from region 1, region 2, region 3, each region has 10 students.

Students were excited on the day of the national excellent student team's debut.

In the coming time, Mr. Hieu also said that the Department of Education and Training will work directly with the principals of specialized high schools to organize 10 weeks of review and training for the team. The teaching staff will be the best teachers in each subject and invite university lecturers, experts, and scientists to join.
"Although not all 480 students won prizes, each gathering like this is a valuable opportunity to exchange, learn, and connect, thereby providing more direction for future studies. The upcoming exam is not only the destination, but also an important first step for the students," Mr. Hieu emphasized.
There are dormitories for students who come from far away to study.
Regarding the living conditions of the excellent student team in the first year after the merger, the Department's leader said that students from far away cannot travel every day, so the arrangement of accommodation in the dormitory, meals, and rest needs to be prioritized to ensure their health.
Regarding cultural studies, the Director of the Department of Education and Training requested school principals to give maximum priority to students participating in the team. For other subjects, schools need to develop a suitable online learning schedule to help students keep up with the program. Students can also choose to study by themselves, study online with their class or make up for the exam.
In particular, for the 12th grade students participating in the national excellent student selection team this year, Dr. Hieu shared: In addition to the excellent student exam, they also have to prepare for the high school graduation exam and university entrance exam, important milestones in their learning journey. I believe that each student has their own plan, knows how to allocate time to ensure the team's performance and prepare well for the next exams.
According to Mr. Hieu, the Department of Education and Training plans to set aside a week for the teams to study in concentration at Area 3 - Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (Ba Ria - Vung Tau) - where there are spacious dormitories, airy spaces, and close to the sea. This will be an opportunity for the students participating in the national selection team to study, socialize, and rest to recharge before entering the exam.
