The weather at night and early morning is quite cold in the first month of the year.

Head of the Forecasting Department, Southern Hydrometeorological Station Le Dinh Quyet has just issued a forecast and warning of long-term weather for 3 months (from January to March 2025) in Ho Chi Minh City.

Accordingly, in January 2025, cold air will be active , intensifying further south and continuing to gradually diffuse into the region. The northeast monsoon in the Southern region will be active with average intensity.

Weather forecast for Ho Chi Minh City is cloudy, with little sunshine and the possibility of an unseasonal rain with not too much rain but over a fairly wide area.

The weather is cold at night and early morning during the first few days and the second half of the month. Low temperatures are likely to drop to 20 degrees during the last few days of January.

In February, the area is mainly affected by the southern edge of the continental cold high pressure tongue, which strengthens and diffuses down to the area. The northeast monsoon dominates the weather in the area with moderate to strong intensity.

The weather in Ho Chi Minh City is generally rainless, only a few places have the possibility of light rain with insignificant amount and the number of rainy days in February is about 3-5 days. In the first half of the month, the weather at night and early morning is quite cold. In the last few days of the month, there is the possibility of local heat with the highest temperature above 35 degrees.

In March, the region is still affected by the southern edge of the cold continental high pressure, but the northeast monsoon that dominates the region's weather has weakened significantly, generally having weak to moderate intensity. The hot low pressure in the west develops and gradually strengthens.

The weather in the area has several widespread heat waves with the highest temperature of 36-37 degrees appearing in the city center. The number of hot days is common from 10-15 days.

Unseasonal rains occur during the dry months.

Commenting on rain during this period, Mr. Le Dinh Quyet said that in the dry months of early 2025, there were many unseasonal rains with light to moderate rainfall lasting for a few days.

“Unseasonal rains are likely to occur during the dry months, creating an unclear dry season or so-called wet dry season in the region,” Mr. Quyet emphasized.

Specifically, January 2025 is the peak of the dry season in the South, so there is little rain. However, unseasonal rains lasting several days often occur, so the total monthly rainfall is higher than the average of many years in most of the region.

February has fewer unseasonal rainy days than January. There are only a few days in the month but there is a large amount of rain, so the total rainfall in February is still higher than January and higher than the average of many years; the rate of exceeding the rainfall standard in February in Ho Chi Minh City is about 50-100%.

March rains due to thermal convection begin to appear in some places in the region from the middle of the month onwards. Therefore, there will be significant differences in rainfall between small areas. In the whole region, total rainfall is generally at the level of approximately to slightly higher than the multi-year average. Particularly in the central city area, it is significantly higher than the multi-year average.

Regarding the temperature during this period, Mr. Quyet informed that in January, it decreased due to the impact of the northeast monsoon. In February, the cold air gradually weakened in the area from the middle to the end of the month; the lowest temperature at night was still quite low but gradually increased at noon, the central area of the city had local heat with the highest temperature above 35 degrees.

March can see some widespread heat waves.

According to Mr. Quyet, the hot season in 2025 is likely to come early but will not be as severe as in 2024, including the absolute highest temperature and the number of hot days in the Ho Chi Minh City area.

The average temperature standard error for the three months is mostly higher than the multi-year average across the HCMC area.
