Deploying the plan to implement Power Plan VIII

This afternoon, April 3, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade held an online conference to deploy the plan to implement the VIII Power Plan. Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong attended at the Quang Tri bridge.

The conference informed about the plan to implement the National Power Development Plan for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 (Power Plan VIII). According to the plan, in the coming time, our country is expected to import about 5,000 MW of electricity from Laos, which can increase to 8,000 MW when conditions are favorable. Regarding the use of renewable energy, the plan clearly states that priority will be given to development in areas with good renewable energy potential and favorable grid infrastructure, with a development scale striving to reach 5,000 MW.

Regarding the development of industrial ecosystems and renewable energy services, the plan sets out the task of researching and building two inter-regional industrial and renewable energy service centers in the period up to 2030.

Specifically, the industrial and renewable energy service center in the North is located in the areas of Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Thai Binh ... The inter-regional industrial and renewable energy service center in the South Central - South is located in the areas of Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City... In the future, both centers can be considered for expansion to neighboring areas.

Participating in the conference, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong said that on February 29, 2024, the Provincial People's Committee issued a document requesting the implementation of the Power Plan VIII with 14 projects. However, the approval of the plan to implement the Power Plan VIII that was just signed and issued did not include Quang Tri. Therefore, it is recommended that the Ministry of Industry and Trade soon submit to the Government for approval of the second phase so that the province has a basis to deploy and carry out the following tasks.

According to the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong, Quang Tri currently has 10 unfinished transitional wind power projects, so he requested the Ministry of Industry and Trade to advise the Government to soon issue an electricity price mechanism to ensure the promotion of resources and remove difficulties for investors and localities in the process of electricity production.

Concluding the conference, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized the importance of the Power Plan VIII. According to Minister Nguyen Hong Dien, up to now, many localities have had good coordination, providing all necessary data to the ministry. However, some localities are still late or have sent incomplete data. Therefore, the localities are required to coordinate with the ministry to complete the data within the prescribed time, as a basis for appraisal and submission to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien requested localities to urgently review, update, and adjust provincial planning to ensure compliance with national planning; review and update specialized planning and plans of each locality, especially land use planning and construction planning; promptly select investors for power projects in accordance with investment laws; arrange land funds for the development of power projects in accordance with land laws and actively coordinate with investors in site clearance, relocation, and resettlement.
