Returning from ban, Pogba still cannot play with Monaco

"I understand the expectations from the fans, but they need more time," Hutter said at a press conference. "We don't want to risk pushing them when they're not ready. Everything will happen step by step," the Monaco coach said.

Pogba's case in particular has attracted the most attention, as he has just completed an 18-month ban for doping violations. The player who won the 2018 World Cup with the French team is on a journey to regain his peak form and sees Monaco as a chance to rebuild his career. Monaco also hopes that Pogba's experience will help them compete in the Champions League next season.

Monaco still have two pre-season friendlies left – against Arminia Bielefeld on July 26 and Ajax on August 3 – before officially entering Ligue 1 with the opening match against Le Havre on August 17. These could be the last chances for Pogba and Fati to show their worth before the season starts.
