On the afternoon of October 8, the Vietnamese team had their final tactical training session at Go Dau Stadium (Thu Dau Mot Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) to prepare for the first leg of Group F of the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup against Nepal taking place tomorrow (October 9).
In this training session, central defender Bui Tien Dung and versatile player Nguyen Duc Chien were able to practice normally after being absent from previous training sessions due to injury.
Nepal is too weak and is not a match for the Vietnamese team. But to ensure victory and keep the hope of competing with Malaysia for the only ticket of Group F to the final round, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team cannot be complacent. Especially in the personnel arrangement in the starting lineup.
With Bui Tien Dung, coach Kim Sang Sik can rest assured in the left center-back position. But if he needs to prepare for the future, the Korean coach can give the opportunity to young center-back Nhat Minh in the match against Nepal.
Similarly, with Duc Chien, coach Kim Sang Sik can use him as a sweeper or defensive midfielder. Otherwise, he can choose the duo of U23 Vietnam players Hieu Minh as a sweeper and Xuan Bac as a central midfielder.
That's why even though his students were confident and laughing freely on the training ground, coach Kim Sang Sik still appeared quite pensive on the afternoon of October 8.
The Korean coach must calculate to ensure victory and give the U23 players maximum opportunities to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games at the end of the year in Thailand and the 2026 U23 Asian Cup finals early next year in Saudi Arabia.
