Since entering university, Nguyen Chi Thien has had a thirst for knowledge and has constantly asserted himself through research, international publications and academic activities at home and abroad.
Starting with the study of surface thermal conductivity materials
Since his second year of university, Thien has joined the research group of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Cuong, Dr. Vu Minh Canh and Master Pham Hoang Ai Le with a research topic on surface thermal conductive materials.
This is the first step marking Thien's scientific research journey, when he presented his research results at the IUH Euréka Award, the IUH Young Scientists Conference 2023 and completed his school-level scientific research project in the same year.
These experiences not only helped Thien practice his research skills, but also built his confidence when presenting in front of scientific panels.
Besides studying, Thien has won scholarships from Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry in most semesters, and also received business scholarships from the first year.
This is not only a recognition of academic achievements but also a motivation to help Thien continue his passion for research, especially in the field of EMI shielding materials - a new research direction with great potential for application.
Thien shared: "Working with teachers and experts in the research field is a valuable opportunity. I always consider scientific research not just a job, but a passion and a journey of self-discovery.
Impressions at international scientific conferences with 3 international publications in Q1
After persistent efforts, Nguyen Chi Thien has made a strong impression with three Q1 international publications, a rare achievement for a university student:
Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry (2024) - study of aramid nanofiber material incorporating boron arsenide and copper nanoflake.
ACS Applied Electronic Materials (2024) - development of ultrathin Ag nanowire/Boron Arsenide composite film.
Journal of Applied Polymer Science (2025) - Fabrication of silicon-liquid metal matrix composites for EMI shielding.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Cuong, Thien's supervisor, commented that this success is not only the result of a serious research process, but also a testament to Thien's outstanding ability, helping him approach international scientific research standards.
"Thien is an excellent student, always showing a serious and passionate spirit of scientific research. The achievement of three international publications in Q1 is a clear proof of his research ability. We are very proud to have a student like Thien, who is not only excellent in research but also inspires many other students," Mr. Cuong added.
Not stopping at international publications, this student from Phan Thiet also actively participates in many major scientific conferences, such as Young Science Conference 2023 (Oral & Poster Presenter, Excellent Poster Award), IWAMSN 2024, National Inorganic Chemistry Conference 2025 and SCPC 2025.
In particular, Thien is also a rare student to participate in international internship programs and conferences, such as JST Sakura Science Program in Japan (2024), Summer University at Ural Federal University, Russia (2025) and World Atomic Week in Russia (2025).
"With the achievements I have made, I hope to inspire other students to boldly pursue research and constantly strive," Thien shared.
With an impressive record of achievements, achieving a GPA (cumulative grade point average) of 3.73/4, and a serious learning spirit, Thien is preparing to graduate early and graduate with honors, ending his university journey with brilliant achievements and great pride.
