Egyptian billionaire Nassef Sawiris is preparing to invest up to $50 billion over the next 10 years in infrastructure opportunities in the US market, as he consolidates his publicly listed holding companies on the Abu Dhabi Stock Exchange of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The capital will be redirected, in collaboration with partners and investors, to invest in infrastructure opportunities in the US over the next 10 years through a combination of equity and credit.
Information from the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange said that billionaire Sawiris' OCI Global and Orascom Construction companies recently announced a potential merger plan to create an Abu Dhabi-based investment platform with global reach.
According to Forbes, the merger will combine Orascom Construction's massive $14 billion capital and global project expertise with OCI Global's proprietary investment platform and tight capital allocation system.
Speaking to the press, billionaire Sawiris said he wants to focus on new business phases, considering infrastructure as the area with the greatest investment potential. According to Forbes, billionaire Sawiris' net worth is estimated at about $8.8 billion as of September 22, 2025.
Orascom Construction established a presence in the US market in 2012 through the acquisition of its subsidiary Weitz, which has undertaken projects including data centers, airport terminals and university student housing. Orascom Construction has undertaken infrastructure, industrial and commercial projects across the Middle East, Africa and the US. The company also invests in concession contracts, owns a 50% stake in the BESIX Group, and operates a diverse portfolio of construction materials, facilities management and equipment services.
