
Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense, Head of the Inter-sectoral Working Group, Head of the Ministry of National Defense's Steering Committee on Vietnam's participation in UN peacekeeping operations, chaired the conference. Attending the conference were Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; Senior Lieutenant General Le Quang Minh, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army.
In September 2024, the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department deployed Level 2 Field Hospital No. 6 with 63 soldiers to the UNMISS mission (South Sudan) and Engineering Team No. 3 with 184 soldiers to the UNISFA mission (Abyei region) to carry out the United Nations peacekeeping mission. To date, both units have completed their term of duty and returned home safely.
Praising the results of the working term at the United Nations peacekeeping mission of Engineering Team No. 3 and Level 2 Field Hospital No. 6, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien said that the two units had excellently completed their tasks, ensuring absolute safety.
“You have done a great job in mass mobilization, spreading the image of the blue beret of peacekeeping soldiers, and enhancing the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the international arena. The leaders and commanders of the mission highly appreciate our Army's strict discipline, regular working style, and highly professional activities. I think these are great successes of the two unit-level formations that we have deployed,” Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien emphasized.
Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien said that in the coming time, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense will request continued research to expand the scale, form, type, and area of participation in United Nations peacekeeping.
“This is a humanitarian issue and a consistent policy in our foreign policy. Recently, on behalf of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, I reported to the Politburo , asking for opinions on the proposal to expand 5 more types of units, which are mechanized infantry units, communications units, military police or military inspection units, airport support units and multi-mission transport helicopter units,” Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien informed.

Deputy Minister of National Defense Hoang Xuan Chien requested Engineering Team No. 3, Level 2 Field Hospital No. 6 and individuals of the two units to continue to promote their experience and sense of responsibility, spread the image of Vietnamese blue beret soldiers, and be ready to receive and complete all tasks well. Agencies and units need to pay attention to policies and regulations, arrange suitable work for officers and employees to complete their tasks; proactively create resources, train, and prepare high-quality forces for the period 2025 - 2030.
The Vietnam Peacekeeping Department coordinates with agencies and units to receive officers and employees of the two units; closely coordinates with the Engineering Corps, the Military Medical Academy and Military Hospital 175 in training, ensuring materials, equipment and preparing replacement rotational forces, doing a good job of creating resources, promptly establishing rotational teams. At the same time, continue to grasp the situation, especially the adjustments of the United Nations and missions, promptly advise the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense on matters related to Vietnamese forces participating in UN peacekeeping operations; do a good job of managing and operating Level 2 Field Hospital No. 7 and Engineering Team No. 4, ensuring absolute safety.

During its term of office, the 3rd Engineering Team has successfully completed its engineering tasks, including: Repairing and upgrading over 300 km of main supply roads, with an average width of 20 - 24 m, ensuring that 4 to 6 lanes of heavy trucks can move during the dry season, ensuring that vehicles can move at 80 - 90 km/h, demonstrating good road surface quality, highly appreciated by the Mission commander; researching and applying K-31 chemical technology (soil hardener) to treat the airport surface with 27,215 m2, anti-dust, anti-seepage and anti-water stagnation, helping to minimize disruption and save resources, praised and commended by the Mission.
In addition, the 3rd Engineering Team also organized the construction of two large-scale factories in 3 months, 3 months shorter than planned; deployed the construction of smart barracks for peacekeeping units at the mission, all ahead of schedule, ensuring good quality; performed other tasks well, such as rescuing more than 200 heavy trucks and tankers of units and people, helping to clear long-congested main roads, and loading and unloading, moving equipment and goods of the Mission.
Regarding Level 2 Field Hospital No. 6, the unit has excellently completed the medical expertise at the mission, with the admission and treatment of 2,650 patients who are United Nations staff and local people; ensuring absolute medical safety; in which it has successfully handled many serious and complicated cases, requiring high medical expertise, typically the surgery to reattach a nearly completely severed finger for a soldier of the Pakistani Engineering Unit, which was fully recovered, received a letter of praise from the Mission Commander and the Division Commander and was evaluated as exceeding the prescribed capacity for a level 2 field hospital of the United Nations at the mission and was reported at the United Nations Headquarters.
With a sense of responsibility and high medical expertise, Level 2 Field Hospital No. 6 has created absolute trust, becoming a reliable medical examination and treatment address for leaders, United Nations staff, local authorities and people; being allowed by the Head of the Medical Agency and the Chief of Military Medicine of the Mission to keep patients for treatment with many difficult cases that need to be transferred to other hospitals. In addition, Level 2 Field Hospital No. 6 has conducted 6,585 physical therapy sessions, creating a high reputation for Vietnamese traditional medicine expertise; proactively developing disease prevention and control plans and effectively implementing measures to prevent and control malaria, monkeypox, and cholera.
