The Director of the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information ( Ministry of Information and Communications ) said that the inter-ministerial agency will conduct a comprehensive inspection of TikTok's operations in Vietnam from May 15. According to the plan, this process will be carried out on TikTok Vietnam Technology Company Limited and TikTok's representative office in Ho Chi Minh City, focusing on compliance with Vietnamese law.

TikTok accused of violating many regulations in Vietnam

The eight main issues covered in the audit include:

  1. Compliance with regulations on the provision of social network services to domestic users includes: Information censorship process, user authentication, blocking and removing information that violates Vietnamese law, handling complaints; algorithms for distributing and recommending content to users; collecting, managing, storing and using user data; ensuring information security and network security.
  2. Compliance with advertising regulations.
  3. Manage celebrities, people working in the performing arts field on Tiktok (idol Tiktok).
  4. Compliance with legal regulations on child protection and prevention of social evils in cyberspace.
  5. Assessing the impact of Tiktok on adolescents.
  6. Compliance with regulations relating to the provision of e-commerce services.
  7. Tax compliance.
  8. Assess the impact and influence of Tiktok on trends and the role of mainstream media.

TikTok is a short video sharing social network that has grown at a dizzying pace in recent times. In Vietnam, the application was officially launched in April 2019 and has about 50 million users to date. Not only short video content, TikTok Shop - TikTok's e-commerce platform also exploded shortly after its launch. Not only in Vietnam, TikTok also faces legal issues as well as vigilance from governments of many countries, including the US, regarding their operations in the host country. The US is considering banning this platform due to concerns about violating regulations on information security and national security. Previously, Washington and many European governments banned the installation of this application on government-owned devices.
