In the era of explosive application of strategic technologies such as AI, IoT, Big Data, Cloud, Blockchain, semiconductors, 5G and 6G, Vietnam has determined that a strong digital infrastructure is a prerequisite to master and effectively exploit these technologies.
According to Mr. Vu Hoang Lien - Chairman of the Vietnam Internet Association, by 2025, Vietnam will have more than 80 million Internet users (DataReportal, 2025). The IPv6 deployment rate has exceeded 60%, placing Vietnam in second place in the ASEAN region and ninth globally (APNIC Lab, 2025).
According to the VNCDC 2024 Report, the cloud computing market in Vietnam reached nearly VND 19,375 billion (equivalent to USD 775 million) in 2024, expected to increase to USD 1.24 billion in 2025 and double in 2029. In addition, data center capacity is growing strongly, from 45 MW in 2024, it is forecast to increase to 525 MW in 2025 and nearly 1,000 MW in 2030. Revenue from colocation services is also expected to reach USD 1.4 billion in 2030.
“These impressive figures affirm Vietnam's rapid progress, but also show that we are facing many challenges: from investment resources, green standards, cybersecurity, data sovereignty, to core research and development (R&D) capacity. Therefore, the Vietnam Digital Infrastructure Development Forum (DigiInfra 2025) is an opportunity for the technology community to discuss, share experiences, propose solutions, make practical recommendations and move towards specific actions. This year's forum takes place in the context of the country strongly implementing Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo and Resolution 25/NQ-CP of the Government, setting a target of GDP growth of 8% or more in 2025 and aiming for double-digit growth in the following years. DigiInfra 2025 is also a practical initiative to realize the orientation of developing Data Centers and Cloud Computing, at the request of the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority. "information", Mr. Vu Hoang Lien said.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung, Chief of Office of the National Data Association, after three decades, Vietnam has demonstrated its ability to break through and enter the digital age, data is no longer just the "new oil" but has become the core production material of all industries. The Association is focusing on three pillars: Standardizing national data architecture, Developing a technology platform owned by Vietnamese people, and building high-quality human resources through the announcement of the establishment of the Global Data Professional Network.
Ms. Dung also pointed out the major "bottlenecks" hindering development from digital infrastructure, energy, gradually forming macro policies to human resources and the nascent data market.
Sharing on this topic, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh, Deputy Head of Technology Department, VNPT Group said: The unit is pioneering in building, developing and mastering national digital infrastructure based on core technologies 5G, Cloud, IoT, AI, Data, Blockchain... Building digital infrastructure owned by Vietnamese enterprises will ensure sovereignty, security and safety.
