The Alfa Nero yacht is moored at Falmouth Harbour, on the Caribbean island of Antigua, and the decision will facilitate the sale of the Russian tycoon's yacht by the Antigua & Barbuda government.
Previously, on May 18, the US Treasury Department issued special license RUSSIA-EO14024-2023-1060959-1 authorizing Antigua & Barbuda to organize the auction of the Alfa Nero yacht.
Individuals licensed by the Ministry may participate in auctions as well as conduct transactions without limitation such as participating in auctions, placing deposits, providing finance, insurance or sponsorship related to purchases.
According to Bloomberg , the yacht received at least 20 offers to buy it from around the world for up to 72 million USD.
Billionaire Andrei Guryev (62 years old) is the founder of the fertilizer company PhosAgro. This billionaire's assets are worth up to 10 billion USD. In addition to owning an expensive superyacht, he is also the owner of the largest private residence in London (UK), Witanhurst, with 25 bedrooms, worth 50 million pounds.
Last year, Gibraltar auctioned off the superyacht Axioma owned by sanctioned steel billionaire Dmitry Pumyansky.
The sale of the superyacht Axioma caused great controversy at the time because the proceeds were not intended to support Ukraine, but because the US bank JP Morgan said Mr. Pumyansky owed them $20.5 million.
