The family of Ms. Nhu Thi Hien, residential group 5, Nam Gia Nghia ward really needs a stable output for short-term agricultural products at the end of the year.
At this time, after the summer-autumn harvest, Ms. Nhu Thi Hien's family, residential group 5, Nam Gia Nghia ward, completed the land preparation to continue planting short-term vegetables, tubers, and fruits on 1 hectare of land. She started planting seeds for the large-scale agricultural consumption at the end of the year, including leafy vegetables such as: mustard greens, cabbage, green beans, chili peppers, and carrots.
Ms. Hien said that during the year, her family only produces about 6 sao/1 ha of land. She alternates between crops and lets the land rest to prevent and fight diseases and reduce output pressure. However, at the end of the year, her family often produces all the land in the hope of having a larger source of income when market demand is high. Her vegetable market is currently mainly convenience stores, food businesses in Nam Gia Nghia ward and 2 neighboring wards. Although applying VietGap process, her family is still worried about low prices at the end of the year.
Quang Son is one of the largest vegetable granaries in Lam Dong, with hundreds of hectares of autumn-winter and winter-spring crops (at the end of the year) with a relatively diverse variety of vegetables, tubers, and fruits, but the economic value is not commensurate. During the harvest season, some agricultural products cannot be sold in time, leading to a situation where the harvest is good but the price drops, or traders force down the price.
It is worth mentioning that people and cooperatives still sell mainly to traders and have not signed contracts with businesses. Therefore, the amount of agricultural products brought to supermarkets and convenience stores is still very modest.
Thinh Phat Agricultural - Medicinal - Service - Trade Cooperative (HTX), one of the units producing short-term crops in large quantities at the end of the year. In which, the main product is cabbage with an area of 20 hectares (20 households grow). The Cooperative signed a product consumption contract with CJ Foods Vietnam Company with a stable price at the garden of about 7,000 VND/kg. Each month, the Cooperative supplies 50 - 100 tons of VietGAP cabbage to the company. Sharing about the difficulties in consuming agricultural products, Ms. Nguyen Thi Toan - Director of the Cooperative said: At the end of the year, members and farmers associated with the Cooperative often have the mentality that the demand is greater, so they expand the cultivation area. The part that has no output, depending on the market, can double the output and be stably consumed.
To overcome difficulties in consuming agricultural products and specialties during the harvest season, in recent years, functional sectors, authorities, and organizations in the western region of Lam Dong have organized many activities to promote and boost trade.
Many businesses and consumer organizations are willing to work with cooperatives and farming households, but production must link together to build large-scale, concentrated raw material areas, ensuring food safety standards and stable quality.
It is known that currently, the Department of Agriculture and Environment continues to coordinate with localities to provide full information on output and harvest season of agricultural products so that businesses inside and outside the province, distribution and retail chains can plan to support the consumption of agricultural products and boost consumption during the main season. The Department also promotes market development, strengthens connections, coordinates with telecommunications units (Viettel Post, VNPT Post) to support digital transformation in agriculture, and strengthens e-commerce transactions connecting regions and areas to bring agricultural products of the West of Lam Dong to a wider range of consumers.
