In recent times, the provincial Youth Union at all levels has made efforts to build, maintain and develop the model of "Foster Children of the Union". As of early February 2024, the provincial Youth Union at all levels has adopted 305 children in difficult circumstances as "foster children".

Launched in 2015, the model “Foster Children of the Union” was first deployed in communes of Vinh Linh district. Realizing that many children in the area were in difficult circumstances and needed attention and support to maintain their studies, local union officials came up with the idea, built and deployed this model.

From the encouraging signals that the model brings, youth unions in other localities have learned how to do it, gradually making the program a common activity of Quang Tri youth. In recent years, the model "Foster children of the union" has developed strongly, practically supporting many orphaned children, children without shelter; disabled children; sick children in difficult circumstances...

Based on the actual conditions and circumstances of the “foster child”, the Youth Union organizations decide to provide short-term or long-term support. Some cases are sponsored until the age of 18. The monthly support for the “foster child” ranges from 200,000 VND to 1 million VND/case.

In addition to one-time, monthly, and quarterly financial support as committed, the union officials also regularly spend time visiting, encouraging, and giving gifts to the "foster children" on the occasion of Tet, Spring, International Children's Day, and Mid-Autumn Festival; giving books and school supplies before the new school year; and providing emergency support in case of illness or disease.

Thanks to that active support, over the past time, 305 "foster children of the Union" have had the opportunity to improve their studies and lives. The difficulties and obstacles that they have faced have been partly resolved. Many children have become good children, good students, and good grandchildren of Uncle Ho. This is a commendable result, urging the Youth Union at all levels in the province to continue to replicate and develop the "Foster Children of the Union" model in the coming time.
