Minister Nguyen Manh Hung delivered the opening speech at the 80th anniversary celebration of the Post and Telecommunications sector.

66 years of Science and Technology.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized: 80 years - a long enough historical journey for hardships to become character, for sacrifices to become courage, for achievements to become pride. That is 80 years of "going ahead to pave the way", 80 years of serving the country, 80 years of accompanying the nation. In every turning point of history, Ho Chi Minh's ideology has always been the torch that lights the way. He taught "Competition is patriotism, patriotism requires emulation; and those who emulate are the most patriotic". It is that spirit of emulation that has helped many generations of postal - telecommunications, science - technology cadres overcome hardships, turn shortages into creativity, maintain the "bloodline of information" and light the "fire of knowledge" for the nation to survive. Over the past eight decades, the Post and Telecommunications, Science and Technology sectors have not only contributed to building the foundation of an independent and self-reliant country, but also sowed the seeds of knowledge and the spirit of continuous innovation for future generations.

The Minister recalled important historical milestones: On August 15, 1945, in Tan Trao - the sacred historical land of the revolution, the National Conference of the Indochinese Communist Party decided to establish the Specialized Communications Committee. This was the first brick, laying the foundation for the Vietnam Postal Service - the core of the national "information bloodline". From then on, the silent footsteps of liaison officers, the telegraph wires spliced together in hardship, the letters written hastily at night, not only carried revolutionary orders, but also carried the belief, will and desire for independence of the entire nation.

On the night of December 19, 1946, from the Ho Bo Post Office, the telegram "National Resistance" was sent. The short telegram resounded over the wire, but like thunder in all directions, calling on the people: "We would rather sacrifice everything than lose our country, than become slaves."

Also in 1946, the first postage stamp bearing the image of President Ho Chi Minh was issued. The stamp, though small, had great significance, affirming national sovereignty, marking Vietnam on the world map, and deeply engraving the image of Uncle Ho in the hearts of every Vietnamese person.

The scientific and technical achievements of the resistance were built right in the midst of the fire of war. In Viet Bac, under a fragile bamboo hut, Professor Dang Van Ngu and his colleagues quietly researched and successfully manufactured Penicillin, saving the lives of thousands of wounded soldiers; Professor Tran Dai Nghia successfully manufactured the Bazooka anti-tank gun from the most rudimentary materials.

30 years of war to protect independence and unify the country were 30 years of postmen "crossing streams and forests", information soldiers "going ahead to pave the way", scientists "turning poverty into creativity". Some people gave their youth to the Fatherland, some people remained forever in the deep forests and fierce waves. More than 10,000 cadres and soldiers of the post and telecommunications sector heroically sacrificed their lives. They lived and fought for the ideal of "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom", used their blood to write an immortal epic, keeping the bloodline of information and lighting the flame of knowledge for the nation to survive and reach the day of total victory.

Become the central driving force of development

In the spring of 1975, the country was filled with joy as the country was reunited. In that context, the entire industry embarked on the task of restoring and rebuilding the country with the spirit of "turning the impossible into the possible". After only a short time, the North - South microwave axis was connected, and the Hoa Sen terrestrial satellite communication station was put into operation connecting Vietnam with the world. The Thac Ba Hydropower Project brought light to millions of households, opening a series of large hydropower projects affirming the ability to master technology in infrastructure construction...

In 1986, the 6th Party Congress initiated the Doi Moi process, a major historical milestone, opening an era of innovation and integration for the country, and also a turning point for the post and telecommunications, science and technology sectors. From here, a series of major milestones were marked, Vietnam was ranked high in many fields, and today, looking back, we see a proud journey.

80 years of journey, the organization can change to suit the requirements of the revolution in each period, but post and telecommunications, science and technology are still the guiding stars, still Uncle Ho's teachings "Information and communication are the nerves, the blood vessels of human beings", "Science must come from production and must return to serve production, serve the masses".

6 major, long-term orientations of the Ministry of Science and Technology in the new period

Nearly 3,000 guests attended the 80th anniversary celebration of the Post and Telecommunications industry,

66 years of Science and Technology.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung reiterated the words of General Secretary To Lam who once emphasized: "The future belongs to the people who know how to cherish great aspirations and work together for the common good."

In that spirit, the Ministry of Science and Technology launched the first patriotic emulation movement of the industry in the new period, with major and long-term orientations:

First, develop a knowledge-based economy based on science and technology, innovation and digital transformation.

Second, build technological autonomy in strategic areas in the spirit of Make in Vietnam. Today, not mastering technology means not being able to maintain national sovereignty.

Third, turn Vietnam into an innovation center of the ASEAN region, the continent and the world, becoming a startup nation based on digital technology and innovation.

Fourth, build modern infrastructure and high-quality human resources for the Ministry's fields, including: science, technology, innovation, post and telecommunications, digital infrastructure, digital technology industry, digital transformation, intellectual property, standards - measurement - quality and nuclear energy, with special attention to artificial intelligence infrastructure, linked to digital sovereignty and digital position of Vietnam.

Fifth , science and technology, innovation and digital transformation must focus on solving the country's strategic problems, aiming at the ultimate goal of improving competitiveness, national governance, labor productivity, economic growth, ensuring national defense and security, and improving the quality of life of the people, contributing at least 50% to double-digit GDP growth. The connection between the three parties: State - Institute - Enterprise, honoring scientists and entrepreneurs is the key to directing science and technology to solve practical problems.

Sixth, science and technology, innovation and digital transformation are not just the work of a ministry, not just the career of a sector, but the common career of the nation, of the whole people. True strength only comes when we all join together, go the long way together. One innovator has an idea, a million innovators have a future.

The 80th anniversary of the Post and Telecommunications sector, the 66th anniversary of the Science and Technology sector and the 1st Patriotic Emulation Congress are not only occasions to express gratitude and pride for the past journey, but also an affirmation and commitment for the new journey. Today's generation carries the mission of continuing the glorious history with great aspirations, innovative thinking and a spirit of service./.
