To assess the impact of eating or skipping breakfast on health, researchers focused on metabolic syndrome, which is at the root of many modern diseases and is a growing public health burden worldwide . This syndrome includes four main components: high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high blood fat and abdominal fat.
Researchers from the School of Public Health , Ningxia Medical University and the Ningxia Key Laboratory of Environmental Factors and Chronic Disease Control (China) conducted a meta-analysis to find out the link between skipping breakfast and the risk of metabolic syndrome with its main components: abdominal fat, high blood pressure, high blood sugar and high cholesterol.
The review included nine studies with more than 118,000 participants.
Results from a meta-analysis showed that skipping breakfast significantly increased the risk of metabolic syndrome and its components.
Specifically as follows:
- 10% increased risk of metabolic syndrome.
- 17% increase in belly fat percentage.
- 21% increased risk of high blood pressure.
- 13% increased risk of high blood fat.
- 26% increased risk of high blood sugar levels, according to the medical news site News Medical.
Researchers revealed that people who skip breakfast are more likely to have metabolic syndrome and its key components: belly fat, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol. This underscores the power of breakfast for long-term health, especially in preventing and managing metabolic syndrome.
