Bayern Munich are stepping up their search for a successor to Manuel Neuer – the veteran goalkeeper who will turn 40 next spring.
Bayern Munich's contract with Neuer also expires at the end of the season, with little chance of an extension.

According to German press, Bayern's plan is to recruit Mike Maignan from AC Milan to replace the legendary goalkeeper of German football.
Maignan is one of the best goalkeepers in the world today, the number 1 choice in goal for Milan and the French national team.
Milan's contract with Maignan is also entering its final months.
From the end of the 2024/25 season, Milan intended to extend Maignan's contract but could not reach a common voice - mainly due to the persuasion of the project rather than the salary.
Milan are still in a transitional phase, lacking big stars and setting modest goals. For his part, the 30-year-old French goalkeeper wants to perform in the Champions League.
Bayern Munich is considered the ideal environment for Maignan. The Allianz Arena team owns a top squad in Europe, with ambitions to win the most prestigious title in European football .
Bayern Munich officials want to reach an agreement with Maignan next January, and bring him to the Allianz Arena in the summer of 2026 – after the end of the World Cup in North America.
From England, MU and Chelsea are also interested in Maignan's contract. However, Bayern Munich is the team that takes the "pole".
