Luton Town part ways with manager Matt Bloomfield following a poor run of form in League One. |
On October 6, Luton Town announced the sacking of head coach Matt Bloomfield after the defeat to Stevenage in round 11 of League One, pushing the team down to 11th place. This decision marked the end of Bloomfield's short journey at Kenilworth Road, where he was expected to help the team recover from two consecutive seasons of relegation.
Bloomfield was appointed Luton manager in January, replacing Rob Edwards, but he was unable to prevent Luton from being relegated for a second successive season.
Last season, Luton finished 22nd in the Championship, and were relegated. To this day, two years later, Luton still hold a remarkable record: they are the last team to score more than two goals against Arsenal in a league match.
In December 2023, Luton lost 3-4 to Arsenal in the Premier League, but made the Gunners sweat in a spectacular score chase. Since then, Arsenal have maintained their position as title contenders, and their defense has troubled the whole of England.
Meanwhile, Luton became the fourth team in English history to be relegated two years in a row. From the Premier League, they went straight down to League One.

Two years ago, Luton were still impressing in the Premier League. |
And this season, Luton Town are also struggling in their promotion journey. The 2025/26 season started promisingly for Luton Town, with three wins in their first four games, but the club's form quickly declined with four defeats in their next seven games.
The latest defeat to Stevenage was the final straw, prompting the board to take action to sack Bloomfield. In an official statement, the club said: “Results and performances in the first 11 League One games of the season have not met the club’s expectations.”
In fact, even though Bloomfield has been sacked, Luton is unlikely to improve. Luton Town is facing many difficulties, including instability in the squad.
The club's board made a series of poor personnel decisions, which led to Luton's financial crisis. The relationship between the club and the audience became strained, with fans no longer supporting the current squad.
