Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Pham Thu Hang commented on the New York Times article regarding the US government's request that diplomatic officials in Vietnam not attend the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

According to Ms. Hang, the victory on April 30, 1975 was a victory of conscience and justice, not only ending the suffering of the Vietnamese people but also of many Americans. The past years have witnessed the great efforts of many generations of Vietnamese and American people to develop the relationship between the two countries as it is today.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) is to honor the immortal values ​​of forgiveness, of the spirit of putting the past behind and looking to the future. From being former enemies, Vietnam and the US established diplomatic relations in 1995, established a comprehensive partnership in 2013 and upgraded the relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in September 2023, the spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.

The continued strong development of Vietnam-US relations is in line with the common aspirations of the people of the two countries, contributing to peace, stability, prosperity and development in the region and the world.

Also at the press conference, answering reporters' questions regarding the participation of leaders of the Ministry of National Defense of China, Laos and Cambodia and military units of the three countries in the upcoming parade on April 30, the spokesman emphasized that the participation of Laos, Cambodia and China in this anniversary demonstrates solidarity among countries in the region.

"The 50th anniversary of national reunification is an extremely important event, not only for Vietnam but also for international friends who have accompanied and helped Vietnam gain independence and national reunification. China, Laos, and Cambodia are three countries with good traditional friendship and long-standing ties with Vietnam," Ms. Hang stated.

The spokesman added that so far, it has received the participation of representatives from many high-ranking delegations, political parties, associations, international organizations, peace movements, anti-war movements around the world, as well as many countries, including the United States.
