The Department of Education and Training has just proposed the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday schedule for students in the city. According to the 2025-2026 school year schedule of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the first semester starts on September 5, ensuring 18 weeks of actual study; the rest is for other activities. The second semester starts on January 19, 2026, ensuring 17 weeks of actual study. The school year ends before May 31, 2026.
During the above-mentioned time period, educational institutions can proactively arrange teaching and learning plans, ensuring enough actual weeks of study. Therefore, the Lunar New Year holiday schedule will be arranged appropriately, as long as the required number of teaching and learning weeks are ensured.
Thus, the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday schedule for students in Ho Chi Minh City is expected to be from February 9 to February 22, 2026 (ie from December 22 to the 6th day of Tet).
Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that every year, the Lunar New Year holiday schedule for students in Ho Chi Minh City will be decided by the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. This year, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will propose a Lunar New Year holiday schedule for 2026 to be a full week, meaning the holiday will be on the weekend and students will return to school at the beginning of the week. Accordingly, the Department is expected to propose to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to let students have a 2-week Tet holiday.

The Department of Education and Training proposed to let students take a 2-week break for the 2026 Lunar New Year.
Last year (Lunar New Year 2025), according to the school year plan, students in Ho Chi Minh City had 9 days off for Tet. The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City proposed to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to give students 2 more days off, making it 11 days. According to many parents, the previous 9-day Tet holiday was considered too short, affecting the plans of many parents and students, especially those living far away and planning to return home for Tet.
