Painter Bui Le Dung was born and raised in Hanoi , and showed his love for painting from a young age. For him, the ancient city with its small streets and rows of green trees was a constant source of inspiration. In 1985, at the age of 20, he held his first exhibition at Trang Tien, Hanoi. Although the resources and scale were limited, it was an important first step in the young artist's artistic journey.
From the 1990s to the 2020s was a journey of tireless creation, perfecting acrylic techniques and a distinctive realism style. That mark is reflected in hundreds of works depicting the beauty of Hanoi through the ages.

At Van Art Gallery, which opened in December 2024, the artist introduced the exhibition “Acrylic - Street” with nearly 60 works, the theme of Hanoi streets and nature. Explaining his long-term attachment to the theme of Hanoi, Bui Le Dung shared: “Hanoi is not only the place where I was born and raised, but also an endless source of inspiration for my art. Every street, every corner has its own story and I feel responsible for capturing that beauty through every stroke of my brush.”
Up until this time, in the space “Going through summer”, Bui Le Dung displayed 35 paintings, mainly created recently, which, according to him, were created with enthusiasm and diligence. His paintings are simple with deserted street corners, quiet atmosphere covering the old house facade, and the attic faded with time.
The bright areas and streaks of sunlight seem to connect the entire space, blending the emotions of nostalgia, a secret longing, a moment of contemplation or a serene enjoyment of peace. It feels like the street space that Bui Le Dung recreates is a “stage” for performances of sunlight, light, and moments of love and intimacy that burst forth during the day.

These are also the important results of love and constant connection with the place where you live and are always passionate about exploring . The artist confided: “I believe in the necessity of real experience. Only when we truly love the subject and connect emotionally with it, can we create vivid and authentic works.”
The exhibition “Going through summer” takes place from October 11 to 22 at Van Art Gallery, 10-12 Yen Hoa, Hanoi.
