Performance of "My Dream" - a new milestone in Vietnam-Korea musical cooperation

Reading Showcase can be understood as the initial rehearsal performance, where the artists read the script and perform the main songs to help the audience feel the content, spirit and message of the work. This is a fairly popular performance form in the world , and has become the standard in creative and staging activities in countries with developed performing industries.

The musical performance "My Dream" is the result of the first phase of an artistic cooperation project between the Youth Theater, SangsangMaru Theater and Guri Cultural Foundation (Korea) that will last for two years, 2025-2026, and will be carried out systematically according to professional musical standards through the stages of translation, script adaptation, music composition, and performance organization in Korea (performed by Korean artists) and in Vietnam (performed by artists of the Youth Theater).

The musical "My Dream" is adapted from the stage script by author Nguyen Thi Thanh Thanh - First prize in the "Children's Stage Script Writing Contest in Vietnam" with the theme "Vietnam's Story Reaches the World". The contest is organized by the Youth Theater in collaboration with SangsangMaru Theater with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and Korea, and the Vietnam Stage Artists Association launched in 2023-2024.

“My Dream” tells a touching story revolving around the central character named Linh, a girl born with a body that is damaged by Agent Orange. Despite this, she still nurtures the dream of creating technology to help the disadvantaged in society. Overcoming adversity, Linh finds the strength to make her dream come true, affirming her self-worth and friendship…

The story is not only touching because of its profound human spirit but also conveys a message: every dream deserves to be cherished and pursued, regardless of each person's starting point.

Coming to the performance of “My Dream”, the audience not only got to listen to the lively dialogue readings of the actors from the Youth Theatre, but also enjoyed the joyful and exciting musical melodies played by the artists right on stage.

The musical's music has a bright, uplifting tone.

Taking on the role of composer and music director for the play, Korean musician Rhim Seyoung said she wanted to convey the most positive energy to the audience, just like the message the play wanted to express, so the music has a bright main color tone. In particular, Vietnamese folk music melodies are also included in the work to contribute to clarifying the colors and imprints of Vietnamese culture.

Through the reading, the audience can feel the message, the plot and the story of each character, thereby partly imagining the journey that "My Dream" will develop on the official stage in the near future.

Previously, in April 2025, at the Guri City Art Theater, Korea (Rape Flower Small Theater), a Korean version of the musical "Your Dream" was performed to introduce this meaningful art project to Korean audiences.

Meritorious Artist Si Tien, Director of the Youth Theater, said: “My Dream” is the first musical project marking the three-way cooperation between the Youth Theater, SangsangMaru Theater and Guri Cultural Foundation with the goal of promoting the development of cultural and artistic projects, especially in the field of musicals for children, families and teenagers.

This is also the third musical project for children that the Youth Theatre has implemented in cooperation with the production model of a modern family musical, with professional support from Korean experts, following the success of two previous musical projects, “Child of the Goblin” and “Zorba the Cat”. According to Meritorious Artist Si Tien, this cooperation also brings many opportunities for young Vietnamese artists to learn and grow in a professional musical environment.

Mr. Um Dongyoul, Director of SangsangMaru Theater, informed that after the reading, based on listening to reviews and comments from experts and audiences, the musical "My Dream" will continue to be perfected in terms of script, music and stage production so that it can officially debut to Vietnamese audiences in 2026 and participate in performance activities in Korea afterward.
